I've been smoking cigars on occasion for about a year and half now and think its time i buy a humidor. I usually smoke 1 cigar a week and i'm looking for something that'll hold like 40 to 50 cigars because I would like to start a collection. I dont need something too big because im still in college and i'd want to bring it to school next year. I'm pretty flexible pricewise as im not against paying more for quality. Thanks for your help guys.

The first humidor I ever got was from the local smoke shop I think. It's a nice little cherry wood 50 cigar humidor. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done well. If you go that way, check out the seals and edges and hinges before buying. You don't want anything that's going to let the humidity seep out. Also I'd invest in a good digital hygrometer because most analogs are slow and off by a good 10 degrees. I've also heard that acrylic cigar jars work pretty well and they come a lot cheaper plus if you're bringing them into a dorm room setting, you'll need something sturdy! Good luck!

I bought a little 25 cigar humidor last Fall thinking that I would never fill it: I was wrong.

A few months back I build an igloodor, basically took a cooler and outfitted it with a digital hygrometer, a sponge with PG solution, and some wooden cigar boxes. If money is an issue, and you want room to build your collection, you can google igloodor, tupperdor, or coolerdor for advice on making one.

i can also help you with building a coolerdor, ill post pics of mine tomrrow.

Although I don't have a Coolador, I have heard great things!

My Opinion on this is...Go Big! You'll end up buying more and more desktops...at least with my personality, I did....and a coolador is a good way to store a lot of sticks at a very reasonable price!

I appreciate the replies and will look into all of them. I think i'm gonna go with something that holds 50 to 75 cigars because i'm still a student and I won't have enough $$$ to accumulate much more than 50 quality cigars for a while.

i remember those days, when i still thought i couldn't afford more than a 25 count humidor full of cigars. Somehow you will find money to buy cigars, and trust me you will eventually get a bigger humidor. i am still a student but my collection isn't too bad. I have enough cigars that i can be searching through my humidor and not remember where some of them came from. i am in the stage where i buy boxes to put in the coolerdor. Its taking some time, but it will be full some day. My prediction is by the end of the summer.

haha I could see me filling up a small one by summers end i guess. I just got a summer internship that pays well so i'll have more cigar money.

You can't see it, can't you, Bildo? You can see kman coming back with the same type of story that malone did the other day. It's September, back to school, start of football season, and kman logs on to tell us about how he got a luxury dorm suite to accomodate his three cabinets and 20,000 cigar collection, which includes 1,000 Jen You Whine Kyoobins. :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :rotflmao: :pumpkin: :cryinlaugh:

lol I already know my dorm sitution next year. We're living in these on campus apartments. There pretty nice and spacious, I could def fit a larger size humidor. I actually go to Marist College in Poughkeepsie which is pretty close to you Bloofington. Are there any good local shops you know of that I could pick up a humidor from?

Yeah, you're real close to me is right. I had friends that went to Marist, but that was before you were born, literally. :cryinlaugh:

As for shops near us, yes, I've heard that the Smokes4Less chain, or something like that, is an excellent local chain. I'd check the internet for the one nearest you. I do most of my shopping on line, cigars, humidors, lighters, whatever. Part of the reason is because I'm a bitter, angry old hermit, and the less I see of society and society sees of me, the better. The other reason is that the lowest prices can be found on the internet. A web site I've been following for six years is:

http://www.avallohumidors.com

I have watched them grow from having a humidor made of ice cream sticks and Elmer's glue :sm_angel: to a site that is highly regarded. I have never purchased from them, but have recommended them to many, and all were satisfied.

Yeah theres a smokes4less store right across the street from campus. They have a nice selection and buy most of my cigars from there. I'll check out the sites you listed and let you guys know what I went with. Thanks for your help
