Another humidor question

hi everybody. Decided I need to look for a bigger humidor. Looking in range of 75-100 or so. I know everyone will say get a bigger one but I'm a small timer for now and probably wont have more than fifty at anyone time, at least now.

Looking at Tampa humidor, cheap humidor and cuban crafters web sites. If you have suggestions, let'em fly. Question about cheap humidor--they have an option to make an offer. Just wondering will this work and how much lower than their quoted price will they go?? Have a good Thansgiving

dinoa, you sound like me when i started with my first humidor, ahh, ill just get a small 50 count, i wont need anything bigger. then i got a 100 count, no way ill need bigger, another 50 and now im looking for the biggest cooler i can find lol.

Amen, I have 6 humi's now, and I realize that I must bite the bullet and get a giant.

If only I had bought a monster to start....

(It's a hassle to worry about RH levels in multiple humidors.)

will add to my own thread

does a glass top make any difference in maintaining Rh and temp ?

I would think that it does...but I personally have never had a glass top humidor, and I would also think however, if the seal is good and the humidor is away from sunlight, it should be fine....

I don't know why I never cared for the glass top humidors....

using one of my old posts to save cyberspace.

Question: I just got a box of FUente from my Florida trip, wrapped in plastic wrap. How long can I leave the box like that before I need to get in humi? I dont intend to let it stay indefinetly but perhaps a week or 2. Just wondering if I run any risks , it would be in house in relatively cool environment.

the length and breadth of my stupid questions, knows no bounds. :barf: ( this last is no reflection on anyone, I just love some of these little guys) thanks

If you have a spare coller that would work too. Just clean it out real good and make sure the seal is nice and tight. You can always make it tighter with a little bit of duct tape. Worked great for me.

I have two glass tops and two...non-glass tops??. I find they both hold RH well and keep tempature the same. I would keep any humi out of the sun, glass top or not.

What kind of Fuentes?

box of 8 5 8 maduro. It has that little humidipak waterdrop symbol on top of the box. I was just wondering if I could leave them in the box for a while or if I should open the box and get them in humi or temporary storage

Do a McGyuver...

Take
1 Large Tupperware container
1 Juice glass half filled with distilled water

Add
1 Box Fuente 8-5-8 Maduro

Get
A temp solution till you get yourself a Humidor.

As BP would say,
You can always send them to me and I'll keep um fresh....only a few will get smoked

I don't know if I would have a glass of water anywhere nead a box of cigars. The chances of spilling the water is too great! If you need proof, I can show you what 1/4 gallon of water did to a full box of 1995 Dunhill Corona's.....

Ouch!

If it has the little humipak thing it should be fine inside a big ziploc. Those are the same as a Boveda pack and should handle a few weeks no problem IMO. Use a freezer bag though if you go that route. Regular plastic bags are moisture permeable to a much greater extent.

My soon to be father in law told me that he saw humidor bags. $5-$7 or so and they hold about 20 cigars. apparently they are just industrial ziplock style bags.

Can't get the thing to stay above 54%

I am having the hardest time keeping my new humi up around 70%

I have wiped the inside of the humi with distilled water on two days.
it stays at 70 for about a day then drifts back down to 59-54% any suggestions?[/img]

sounds like you have a seal problem. try the flashlight test.

or the really big zip lock bag test.

the flashlight test goes as follows. put a lit flashlight inside and close the lid. (if it isnt a glass top) take it into dark room and look for light. if you see some then air is getting in or out.

the really big zip loc test: put the entire humidor in a zip lock bag or some other air tight bag. Place a hygromiter inside and outside your humidor. (both in the bag) Hydrate your creedo/beads/whatever you are using to humidify. THe hygromiter on the inside should go up the one on the outside of the box should stay the same. if after a few days they both go up and balance out then there is a problem with the seal.
