I haven been hearing mixed suggestions on what exactly to use for humidification. I got myself a 150 count Humidor(by the way, im a novice) and it keeps reading at 60. Any suggestions?

If your cigars smoke well and are still supple then don't worry about it. I keep my cigars at 58-62 percent humidity and they age great and smoke perfect.

If you are new to this realm of cigars and Humidors (as I am) I recommend you check the thread on salt testing your hygrometer before you get too worried about your RH readings. Remember to season your Humidor before you put sticks in it, and I recommend using Beads for humidification. Welcome to the board, and if you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask!

because rite now, with my stock humi, i have been using Havana Rain(Havanna Connections is a store near me who makes it). With a brand new desktop humi, do i need to wet the inside with distilled water first, or wat?

I would not "wet" the inside... just place a small dish of distilled water inside and closed the lid for a couple of days. That should do the trick.

so then, while im waiting a few days, were should i stash my cigars. I GOT NO COOLER, AND NO TUBAWARE(SUPRISIONGLY ENOUGH).

Thanks 4 the help.

you can always use plastic ziplock type bags (maybe double bag). keep them out of sunlight though. Your local shop may have some of the little humi pillows that you can use buy to use for humidification until your humidor is ready.

edit: someone correct me if I am wrong here, but I would think that if you put your sticks in a good air tight bag, then they should be fine like that for the few days it takes to season your humidor...you may just have to let them rest in there a while longer before smoking them.

First, welcome to the forum.

They'll be okay for a few days in a ziploc bag. To be safe though in case for some reason it takes longer, I'd see if your shop has either Boveda packets or Humipaks. Not sure about Humipaks but the formula for Boveda packs is one for every 50 cigars plus one.

Ok, i went to the store and got some Boveda packs and r resting rite now in my closet. I also put in an order for a box of Cusano 18 (everybody raving how good they are) and, 1 of my fav H. Upmann 2000 Coronas. Should be gettin those within a week.

Welcome to the forum, Leeroy_Fan! You are getting some great advice here - follow Spider's advice and check out that salt thread - it is invaluable.

Just for info!
I've had a 65% Heartfelt Tube in my 150 count for several weeks now. 64/65% every time I open it. It will move when I drop some new stiks in but come right back.
Good Product!

On a Side note: The Casa Fuente's that I picked up in Vegas bumped it up to 69% for a day or two.

Razor why do you think that happened??? the cigars were at a high humidity level when you put them in??? just curious

Could be. Many stores keep humidity high because of customers opening and closing cases/doors. You can actually see the mist in the air in some.

Most tobacconists keep their inventories at 70 percent and higher. This is due to the fact that customers walk in and squeeze their cigars looking for freshness. If the tobacconist kept them at the proper humidity like 58-62 percent then they would be getting a ton of cracked cigars.

When you put cigars you have received from a store into your humi, the excess moisture will jack up the humidity in your humidor for a few days or so.

I got my first desktop humi for Christmas, and am ecstatic to have a decent excuse to have smokes around when I want them.

My problem started with the fact that I didn't buy any propylene glycol solution. Then I bought a bundle of "Capas" from Thompson. They taste like mildew if you draw before lighting, and I've started to see a white fuzz on the face of my humidifier. Did I just contaminate my humi? Are my cubans ruined? (They're on the other side of a divider) Is it essential that I get some PG for anti-fungal properties? If I do add PG to the humidifier, will it fix my problem? Will mold spores now hide in the pores of the cedar lining waiting to leap out and contaminate anything I put in there? Help!

Will I even be allowed to post again if I keep smoking those Thompsons because I'm too broke/cheap to throw away even a moldy cigar? (I'll never buy anything from those @$$-pirates again!)

well that suxs. So im hearing that beads are the best way to go. Beside the heartfeld beads, wat else r good. no stores around here cary those. Also, do i need to get a new humi, or can i use the once i had my sponge in???

Your current humi should be fine. Any humidification device should work in any humidor, as long as it's big enough.

OK so... I went to my local tobacconist about my moldy humidor. First, he sold me some PG. Then, he said I needed to sterilize my humi: empty it, wipe all the surfaces down with rubbing alcohol, let it air out, and then condition it as if it were new. He said otherwise mold spores do hide in the grain of the cedar.

The other thing he said is that you might be able to kill mold spores already on the cigars by putting them in the freezer for a day, then easing them out through the fridge. He suggested I try this on my cheapest sticks first, keeping my good stuff standing by in a tupperdor. I guess it seems silly to me to sterilize my humi and then put back in sticks that have to be covered in mold spores. On the other hand, I can't bring myself to throw away the last of my cuban stash...

Does any of this sound smart or ridiculous to anyone? Lemme know if I'm about to do something really stupid.
