Okay maybe this is a real cigar noob question but as the case i am a real cigar noob so here goes

What can i use as a temp. humidor to store a few cigars in until i get a humidor and it's seasoned.

right now i have 4 in a plastic bag / a "water pillow" (i think thats what its called)

i was just wondering if ther was something else i shoudl use or if not how long will i be able to keep them in a zip lock w/ that w/o ruining them.

also i think i heard something about using tuperware but i might be wrong any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I would go with the tupperware before I kept my smokes in a ziploc bag. You want a larger volume in the container to prevent overhumidification. Also you dont necessarily want the water pillow so close to the cigars themselves.

Tupperware works fine for a while. I was told to open the lid on a regular basis to let fresh air in. If you have a mold problem it can get out of hand easily, so watch for that.

I also have some cigars in latch top jars. These have an air tight seal too, so I open it once a day. The humidity stays around 68% in both the Tupperware and in the jars.

I have a big humidor with room. Send your sticks my way and I will smoke them for you... I mean store them for you.

I'd do a search here on the forums using the key word "tupperdor" as a starter. It will yield some valuable results. Lots of good discussions on this subject.

thAnks alot i will do that search.

What part of Scottsdale are you in? I lived in Phoenix (near Metro Center) back in '93. My friends are still in Phoenix.

Hey I am down in Yuma,,Hows the wethar up there? LOL. Better not say anything, those snow bound guys tend to get a little cranky when we talk about sunburn in march

hey its supose to rain this weekend
it will break our 140 days of no rain record

Yeah, I remember those days of non-stop rain for days!

I dunno what's better, streets turning into rivers during the rainy season, dust storms and monsoons, or super 110+ degrees dry heat.

I remember the first day I arrived in Phoenix from Honolulu, Hawaii. It was 118 degrees. All I could say was "WTH am I doing here?!"

I have been using a tuperware for 6 months now. It works very good. I just trew in a Boveda pack and it has been ata constant 68 for a long time. I recomend it for a good temporary storage vessel.

Another thing you can do is throw some cedar sheets in there to give it a little more "humidor" smell.

Just ask the guys at your cigar store for extra cedar, there shouldn't be a problem getting some if you are a customer, and if you have to buy the guy a cigar to do it, so be it - it worked for me!!

I just break apart my old cedar cigar boxes, and try to take as much of that labeling off before lining it in the tupperdore.

As I learned the hard way. The baggy completely sealed will definitely over humidify them. I killed an Opus xXx that way. Sniff, Sniff.....It still brings tears to my eyes.

One other bit of advice. Once you get your new humidor and digital hygrometer don't use the velcro sticky tape they give to you to stick it to the top of your humidor. Especially if you are seasoning it with a small bowl of water underneath the hygrometer. That way when the hygrometer comes loose from the not-so-sticky tape it won't fall into the bowel of water and completely die. That way your day won't start out like a bowel of crap. Like mine did today. I obviously don't mind burning $36.00 away smoking a great cigar. Just don't like drowning it.

sorry man
we all have days like that

I put everything in a tupperware w/ a water pillow in a open bag

also i went out an bought a few more cigars this morning.

2 5 vegas A artisan
2 5 vegas A Archetype
2 onyx reserve mini belisco
2 A. fuente Chateau Fuente (1 nat. 1 maduro)
1 " " flor fina 8 5 8
2 cusano 18 Double connecticut corona and robusto

I might have spent more than i planned at first but i couldn't stop myself. anyway i also picked up a Hydrometerd one of those jars w/ the jelly stuff in it. want to see if that will work better than the pillow.

the hydrometer was sitting a bag w/ wet salt so i could what it read (%70) today.

i want to see what it reads w/ the pillow in the morning then i will switch it out for the jelly and see which is better
