Possible humidor problems?

I ordered the Friday package 2 weeks ago and got my Southport humidor loaded with cigars, and a few new ones Chris sent me (THANKS by the way). I have repeatedly drenched my humidifier with distilled water, and wiped down the inside once or twice. My crappy analog reader was working when I did the salt test (pushing over 80% at the time). Now, it seems everytime I open up my humidor, it's around 60-65% if I'm lucky. I tap it, sometimes it moves, sometimes not. My cigars don't feel crusty, and still have softness to them. Could the analog reader be crapping out? Do I lose a lot of humidy everytime I open the thing? Do I need a bigger humidifier? Need help. Thanks.

Simply put: Analogs are crap. They'll give you a different reading every time.

Get a digital and toss the analog. Some can be had for less than ten dollars so its not like its a huge expense. They can and probably will be off by a few % points but a salt-test will tell you how much its off and you just add or subtract that when you take a reading.

Toss the analog get a digital and try to keep opening to a minimum. and YES you need a BIGGER one. LOL

if your humidifier is rated for 100 cigars and you have 100 cigars you should get one for 150.

be able to humidify more than you have.

i have an analog in my deask top humidor and it does just fine.

if you have to "tap" it to make it move you have a problem. it should be there on its own. get a new one. digitals are more accurate on the read but if you have a good analog and its set correctly youll be fine.

i have a flukers brand digital thermometer/hygrometer.
was less than $15 at the local pet store.
i did the salt test, and it is perfect.

if you wanna go upscale, go to walmart/target and buy an oregon scientific digital hygro/thermo/clock

Got mine for about 6 bucks at wallmart.

Yeah yeah I know, we here at the amback forums hate wallmart.
Hay! its close to my house.

I got an oregon scientific at target on sale for $3 :D . It would have been $10 otherwise and it is off by -2.

I got mine at Radio Shack for $34 I think. High but that's Radio Shack. It was spot on though. If you can, you might want to get a remote wireless one. I regret it everytime I open my fridgidor and let humidity out just to take a reading.

Jared,

Get a digital hygrometer. They are WAY cheaper than ruining your entire cigar collection. Trust me.

I don't hate Wallyworld. I think it is the best thing since Jim Beam.
