Humidor's freakin' me out!

Need some advice, gentlemen.....

It's been so hot out here for the last 3 weeks that my humidor temp and humidity is almost out of control.

Temp has been fluctuating between 77 and 80 degrees with the humidity going between 68 and 72%

I don't have any A/C in my house so I can't cool anything down. My humi isn't in any sunny area of my house. All I can do is open my doors and windows to get a breeze.

I just put some fans in there to circulate the air and try to cool it down but all it seemed to do was raise the humidity.

Need some help here......what do I do?

Blue Ice. Double bag and wrap it in a towel. Have extras to rotate with. Not much else that can be done without a fridgidor.

DD that was my constant problem here in florida ....I had those exact temp problems and my house has A/C but my office was always warmer so I bought a portable a/c unit and now my temp in my humi is 71-72 rh is rock solid 68%

I don't remember which humi you have but would it be possible to put it in a large cooler to help insulate it from outside temps?

That with the Blue Ice might help keep temps in a better range.

Buy a winecooler and convert it to a humidor. Very easy to do and you will never have to worry about the temp again. Great investment.

My humi is a 1200 ct cabinet. No chance of it fitting in any cooler.

There's not really any space in my house for an A/C unit, so I'll try the blue ice trick. Hopefully it works.

I don't know if I could convince the wife to allow me to buy a frigidor!
Who knows....maybe if I win big in Vegas, right?

dude.......the a/c unit i'm talking about is free standing...meaning you dont need a window to install it in....it stands about 30" tall and is about 16"x16" and all you need to do is install the included 5" exaust pipe out the wall (like a dryer vent)

Yes, Sergeant DevilDog, SIR!!! So sorry to hear you're having The Northeastern Summertime Humidor Blues.

Actually, this problem is not only common in the Northeast, but the Southeast, and I guess, Kaliforniya too, but that would make sense.

Every year, on every cigar related web site, in certain hot and sticky parts of the country, one or more people will come on to say that they opened their humidors and the level went UP!!! Yes, sad but true, and the gang here has come up with some great solutions. Good old American ingenuity at it's finest.

Just imagine, you open the lid of say, ohhhhhh, a desk top humidor, somewhere in the affected areas of the U.S.A., and it reads 73% humidity. You KNOW your digital hygrometer is perfect, because you did the salt test three times, and the last time let it go for 48 hours. :cryinlaugh: :rotflmao: mg: :duh:

But, thinking that leaving the lid open might help the situation, you return ten minutes later to find that the hygrometer is reading 81%.

Wellllll, I do have the IQ, and probably the talent. I've been told I could've been a lawyer, psychiatrist, etc., so we may as well add philosopher to the list. Alas, I am none of those. I'm having the same tepm problem here in VT. I keep my room A/C at 72deg. The humis are running 71 to 74deg. thats the best I can do. My humidity has been great I'm using 65% beads I've been able to keep the rH between 60 and 64%. Have you tried beads in your humi??

I wish I had A/C in my house.

I used beads for a while but I have an Oasis. My Oasis hasn't even kicked on for about 2 months because of the humidity.

I'm gonna try the blue ice pack thing first.

If that doesn't work, then I'm gonna have to tell my wife, "Sorry, but I'm getting the frigidor" I'm not going to let $1500 worth of cigars get destroyed by beetles or heat because she doesn't want me to spend another couple hundred dollars.

Put a cup of DRY beads in your humi. They may help to absorb the extra moisture, without letting the rH get lower than 60%. The cup of dry beads really helped in my humi.

Although the cooler would be nice

i actually have way more beads in my humi than i need and i find that my RH does not move at all.

the temp however.... im still workin on that. I never average above 75.
I always dream of building a wood humi with a temp control.
can that actually be done?
