Hi all,

Just got my new 300 ct. Humi. I put in my cigar oasis, a glass of RO/DI water and a Humipack. Is that overkill or will it help season the humi a little quicker?
Thanks

its not over kill. just remember to keep an eye on the RH. If it gets too high you may end up with mold.

Personally I don't like to use the oasis during the seasoning because I feel that it turns on too often...but with the water and pack in there I suppose that you wouldn't have that problem...

Also, seasoning isn't something that you would want to rush, the object is to get the wood inside the humidor to absorb moisture, but if it absorbs too fast you will get warping and such and then you will have ruined the nice new box that you just spend all that money on because it wont seal when it closes.

Thanks for the help. I will put my calibrated hygroeter in when I get home and check out the humidity level. I it is close to 70% I will remove the glass of water.

I had to use the oasis because I had to season so much wood, but in a 300 I would be reluctant to use it to season. I would put in as large a bowl of distilled water as I could and just wait it out. Many people stop at their desired RH when seasoning, but I like to go to 75 or 80% and then let it drop. The reasoning is that at that point you rule out any fluctuations and chance that the wood is not saturated to your set oint.

An oasis could also cause deceptive readings on the hygro because it can put out so much moisture in such a small area. My humidity always drops after my fans come on, and even more so when its after the Oasis turns off.

I am a little confused. I assume like anything else patience is important. So what you are saying is the Oasis can actualy humidify it to fast?

Sorry, reluctant wasn't really the right word. I just think the distilled water in a bowl method would cause less frustration in the seasoning process because the rapid humidity bursts of the oasis I would think would have the potential to cause innaccurate readings on the hygro. I could be way off on that though. If for no other reason, the constant whirring of the oasis coming on would be enough for me to use the bowl method.

Go ahead and try it. Let us know it works.

Well I turned off the Oasis last night it was running for about 30 hours. I just put a bigger bowl of water in the humi. As of 9 pm last night it was reading 68 deg. I will let it go slow from here. Thanks for all the advice.

68 degrees or do you mean 68 % humidity? its the humidity your concerned about right now while seasoning it...if 68% and holding then you can go ahead and put some sticks in

Sorry yes I meant 68%. I thought I would bring it up to 77 or 78 then pull the bowl of water and turn on the Oasis. Then let it settle in for a couple of day back down to 68-70. Then put my sticks in next Monday or Tuesday. I might as well be a little patient.
