Ammunitions crate! Its got a rubber seal

I would make sure it is WICKED clean. God knows what was stored in it. There is a guy on ebay that sells ammo cans lined with spanish cedar So there are people using them.

its clean alright i could put sauce and lick on it<- not dirty

There's no reason it won't work. You might want to look into a humidor at some point.

dont have to i live in SINGAPORE the tiny red dot in the world.
its near the equator and VERY humid

I may be completely out of my mind here (won't be the first time), but wouldn't the rubber seal inhibit the thing from breathing??

I was wondering the same thing geek. Humidors aren't airtight as far as I know, and I've read that they actually do "breathe" to allow airflow through the inside, regulating the humidity. If it were airtight, you'd rarely need to recharge the humidifier. Then again, what I read could be total BS.

humidors are not air tight because they are wood.

... and because you open them.

Humis are wood because spanish cedar helps themk age the best.

many coolerdors are air tight, or close to it. Nothing wrong with that, as far as i can tell.

There is some real debate going on, if a no air exchange will create a better cigar after MANY years. we are talking 20 years. I am not sure were I fall on it but it makes sense to age slower. Now for a humi I don't think it maters cause the air will be exchanged when you open it to find a cigar

now im getting the paint smell out...and suggestions on how to get it out?

What do you do if your humidity is over 70% where you keep your cigars?

i just keep em in the box then in the closet humidity here fluctuates from 50 to 90+ if it is raining. I just leave them out for 30 mins before smoking that should be just nice.

if the Humidity is high leaving them out will not help. Most of us have lower ambient RH than our humidor. if you leave a cigar out for a bit than it will dry out, not if your ambient RH is higher than you humi

I dont see the ammo can as a good idea. If your getting paint aroma the only thing your going to able to do is exchange it for something worse like some kind of stripper. I would use something else. JMHO, I would hate to see you ruin your smokes brother.

I agree with Steve on this (yes I agree with Steve....) - if you were having any kind of paint smell from the can - I would not store smokes in there. It's not worth taking the chance. Although it is a pretty cool concept - I think it's not a good way to store the smokes.

my box has a small water pillow so thats all the humidity is between 60-70 in the box but usually i smoke at night and th humidity is between 70-85. No problems so far with my smokes
