Brand New Humidor

Welcome to the forum.

Good info on breaking in new humidors is in the sticky section (just above this post) of this section.

I am fairly new here also. Basically, put in a container of water to bring the humidity up and condition the humidor. Then keep it full and regulate humidity. Then buy a larger one.

And after you have that one conditioned, go out and buy a cooler, cause you are going to need it! LOL!

Welcome to the forum brother, you will find a great bunch of guys here to be sure!!

Thanks for the warm welcomes fellas!

What exactly is a coolidor? I've never heard of that before.

Also - there are about 6 drawers in my humidor. Do I put a bowl of water in each drawer?

6 drawers? in a few weeks there wont be any room for cigars musk less a bowl in each one. Get a Cigar oasis or Beads. I use the oasis myself and have had no problems with it. Now that you have bought this humi start planning on buying a bigger one. Welcome to the madness.

Put a bowl of distilled water in your new humidor for a few days and leave it closed during that period, this is done to add moisture to the cedar. Remove the bowl of water put your humidification source (Beads, Oasis, polymers) into the cabinet and leave it until your digital hygrometer reads whatever beads , etc you have chosen i.e. 65%, 70%. Add one box of cigars for a day and check it again. Do not worry about fluctuations for the first few days as it will bounce around until your humidor is reasonably full (the cigars and boxes hold the humidity).

A Coolidor is a cooler converted to storage for cigars
A Fridgador is a fridge converted to storage for cigars

I hope this is what you wanted, welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum. There's people here who have forgot more about cigars than I'll ever know. You'll learn a lot by reading their posts. One thing is for sure, you will buy another, bigger humi. This is also a madness! I spent more time figuring out what sticks to take with me on my vacation than my wife did packing for us and our kids!! It's a good madness though!

Larger Humi for sure. I have a 20 ct at my office a 300 ct at home, and now have a 1200ct cabinet on the way!!! Enjoy
