I don't currently own a humidor, so what would be my best option for storing cigars?

Tuperdore. Basicaly take a large tuperware container and add some type of humidification, wala you have a temporary Humidor

Almost any airtight container will work. Be sure it is not a box made of aromatic wood(unless it is spanish cedar). Some people use a good sealing piece of tupperware. Then add a source for humidity and some way to measure the humidity/temp. This will keep them in prime condition.

If you do use a wooden box of somekind be sure to stabilize(season) the humidity before adding any sticks to it.

What would you recommend for humidification? Maybe a damp towel, or small cup of water? Also, should I keep it somewhere dark or light?

Dampen a sponge or papertowel but keep it seperate from the cigars so they don't have direct contact. A glass could spill and ruin you sticks. Also no tap water, distilled h2o only. no direct sun light, temp should be around 70. Heat could lead to a beetle problem.

Whats a beetle problem?

I'll have to grab some distilled water when I'm out tomorrow. Thanks!

do a search for the tabacoo beatle on the forum. It will give more details. But in short if eggs happen to be in any of your sticks and it gets hot enough they hatch and you will find only dust in your box.

If you have a local smoke shop you can pick up humi packs for less than $1 each. I would think 2 would be more than sufficient
