humidor question

I have a digital hygrometer that has been salt tested with a 74% outcome. My humidor can hold about 150 cigars and has four shelf area (three of which can be removed and one top locked area) each shelf has four or five slots for ventelation but yet obviously aren't big enough for a cigar to fall through. Herein lies the problem(?): in the top area of my humidor my hygrometer reads 72-76% humidity, but when put in the lowest draw it reads 64%. I was wondering how you would advise to make the humidity level out throughout the humidor, I placed one of the travel humis that cigar.com puts in their shipments in the bottom but it has yet to really have any affect so any advice would be welcome :)

ps-the box is kept in a dark area with temperatures around 72-76 degrees with two windows that are always shaded closed so no sunlight (or at least extremely little) is hitting it. Thanks guys!

I may be off here - but my suggestion might be to put a small container of beads (Heartfelt) in each drawer - I think that would regulate things much better.

What other humidification are you using for besides the travel credo?

if i had a drawer style humidor like you are describing, i would get a few coffin boxes from of the higher end cigars (camacho liberty, GOF...) and fill those with the above mentioned beads. its a spanish cedar box that will fit anywhere in any humidor. it worked for me in my "top loading" desk top humi.

Matt do you put the lid back on after you fill the coffins?
just wondering

A cheap holder that I use is the top of a plastic butter dish that I got at walmart. The fit in pretty well and are cheap.

But if you use the coffins - definitely keep the top off.

alrighty, I have never heard of these coffin boxes before so could you maybe link me to one or let me see a pic of the coffin and beads, I'm also using a humidification device that came with the box, it runs off of distilled water only

nope.... lids are off

i also line them with a plastic wrap incase i over fill the beads or something. the wood wont soak up the water and maybe mold/warp/whatever.

Just use pantyhouse. Works great. Make little bead rolls. OR filter bags for a fish tank. I like those the best.
