Question regarding Otterbox

Well having used my otterbox for a few trips recently, i noticed a few things that i need a solution for...

1. When travelling on a plane with my otterbox, whether i carry it on or put it in my checked baggage, i've found that due to the air pressure changes, a huge vaccum is created inside the otterbox...making it impossible to open until i loosen the air vent screw and let it repressurize...this would be fine in and of itself, no big deal, but i cant help but wonder how bad this vaccum created is for the cigars...is the only obvious solution to just keep the screw removed when flying and would that have a terrible effect on maintaining humidity in the box while flying?

2. The trays it comes with suck- when travelling, they dont keep the cigars from rolling around, i know i can get better trays from Heartfelt- does anyone use these with any luck in solving this problem?

Iv noticed the same thing about the vaccum. Im glad you asked this question and i hope someone can answer it. I hope its not harmful to the sticks.

Many people swear by vacuum sealing for long term storage. This is also how some infusions are done. It should have no effect of the cigars, especially since this should be no where near a true total vacuum.

As for the trays, they don't fit in the otterboxes sold today. I believe they only fit in the 32ct. If you cut them up, you'd lose capacity as for the same area, there's less slots.

I was using a herf-a-dor over the weekend on a flight from detroit to boston and didn't have any of the pressure issues I have heard so many people talk about. I wonder if that is a difference between the brands. I did find that the only cigar I managed to smoke (cusano 18) tasted off, and it had been sitting in my humidor at home for a couple of months. Anyone else experience this with air travel?

I have an otterbox which has the same vaccuum issue but I've never had any problems as far as damaging the cigars.
I also have an elite travel humidor that has a lock setting specifically for air travel which leaves a very small gap in the case to allow air to pass through.

Keep the box sealed until after the flight them release the pressure.
Any time cigars travel by plane they can taste off.
The box even though tough to open does protect the cigars.

I've been able to keep the issue to a minimum by taking the box on my carry on.

yeah, i've tried both and either way it gets vacummed closed...the box i have is the Otterbox Cigar Caddy, 32 capacity...so i think the trays from heartfelt will work and help with my problem of keeping the cigars from moving around...

as far as the vacumm hurting the cigars, i haven't noticed any issue with regards to taste, but it seems the vacum might have a drying effect as i would assume any moisture would get sucked out too? just seems the cigars get a bit "compressed" if that makes sense...
