I got my hands on some rare ASHTON VSG ESTATE RESERVES...I was excited to get them, one I pulled them from the box I noticed this white powdery substance on them...i went from excited to extreme psyched...could this powder be plume? or is it mold? Looks like plume to me.

Better be safe than sorry, go ahead and send me a stick so I can inspect and verify personally.

Doc-T seriously, what would i do without you...always willing to put urself out there and take the "gamble" like that...what a good guy

Looks more like plume to me too. Take a magnifying glass and see what its structure is like. If is short and crystaline in nature, then its plume. If its fuzzy, you've more likely got a case of mold. Even if you do, its probably still fine. Unless the mold is on the foot, then you've got trash.

Nice sticks....if you feel like you have too many I might be able to make you an offer.

ha too many...NEVER!

But if ur interested in a trade pm me and let me know what u had in mind...

some of these sticks are spoken for already..but we'll see what we can do.

That is Plume no doubt about it!
Amazing to find a box of VSG ER at this time.
The plume shows they have been stored properly.
A great score!

It doesn't look like mold to me, but it also isn't characteristic of plume from that particular wrapper. The Opus X Rosado wrapper tends to develop plume that resembles sparkling crystals that dot the cigars, such as this:

Another third possibility might be that what you're seeing is the result of excessive magnesium in the soil, as per here:

In any event, enjoy those Ashton VSG Estate Reserve cigars, they are fantastic.
