Alright, I have my cooler, beads and a few boxes of cigars resting. My only problem so far has been putting too much water on the beads, but I have been opening it regularly to bring the humidity down while the beads dry out a bit. My only remaining question is whether the "new cooler" smell is harmful for my smokes? They are in boxes lined with spanish cedar and the smell is just new plastic basically. Any problems with this?

You will be fine. As long as the stick are in boxes you should not have a problem. And if they are out of it; it will not be a big issue.
