My humidor is pretty stable with the humidity but the temp seems to go up into the 75s in the summer time. I took the humidor to the basement level and it drops to 65-68f. Are there any tips or tricks to keep it around 70 degrees or is 65-68 an alright temperature?

Still a newbie myself but I can tell you the70/70 rule is somewhat overrated. I keep my cooler in the basement and it stays around 65-68 with no problems and i try to keep the humidity around 65-68 also they seem to smoke better for me. just keep it consistant wide swings in temp/humidity may cause problems.

the 70/70 rule is overrated. however, the more important 70 is the temp one. why? Because that is an upper limit on what you want. sure you CAN have them at 75 or 80 but every degree over 70 is a greater chance of running into the dredded tobacco beatle.

as far as sugestions:

move the humi to the basement if you dont have a mold problem down there.

build a coolerdore or frigador

crank that AC up. (this is what i do)

all i can say is get a cooler. mine refuses to be anything other than 68 degrees. the temp in my apartment seems to have no effect on it. its almost as if they are built to maintain a constant temp.

they also have the added benefit of cheaply giving you the space you need to let your habit really run wild.

If you're worried about temps, do what I do. Throw your stogies in the freezer for about 4 days when ya get them. I've had a few shipments come in and they roast here in Phoenix. I've had the box actually be very warm when I received it. I throm them in the freezer to kill off any possible tobacco larvae/eggs then put in my humi. My place is rarely below 75° (maybe in the so called winter months) b/c I'm too uncomfortable at that temp. Besides, with the heat we get here, I doubt the central air could keep a steady 70° w/o running constantly

I like the idea on the coolidor bdub, never thought about how it could control the temp like that. I just might have to pick one up as my humi will be full after my 2 shipments come in nest week.

Thanks guys. I wont be so worried about it dropping to 65 then. Just as long as it doesn't go too low or too high.

the temp can go down to 60, you just may want to sit the cigar out and warm up before lighting them.

Chris,
My brother, you REALLY have to take a minute when posting, especially when the guy is asking for advice.
I know what you mean, but....sheesh

I don't have much personal experience in this area, but I would think that a possible concern would be that with a humidity level around 70, as your temp drops into the lower temps you may start to experience some condensation... just a thought.

There is nothing wrong with 65-68 degrees. As a matter of fact, I have over 47 boxes of cigars stored at 63% and a temp of 68. I love the lower RH. IMO, they burn with less corrections and problems.

NO matter what Capt....

You are still a stud!!! 47 boxes...sheesh
