Beetle vs. Cellophane?

Quick question -

Had a temp spike in my travel humi ~90F for a few hours before I caught it. All but two of the cigars were in cellophane wrappers.

1. How long of a temp spike does there need to be before beetle eggs hatch

2. Will a beetle eat through a cellophane wrapper?

My inclination is to smoke the two that didn't have cellphanr wrappers and then leave the others alone. Seems silly to risk a split wrapper leaf if there is low risk of a beetle problem.

most often you wont actually see the beetles, but rather you will see hole in your cigars where they tunneled out. There is no rule on time in a temp that will hatch the little suckers. The thing to coniser most is what type of cigars you have in front of you. If they are premiums then you are probably fine since they usually freeze them before shipping and fumigate very well. If it is inexpensive bundles then you need to seperate them from the good stuff asap. Yes beetles will eat right through cello. Usually you know you have a bettle problem after it is too late. If you dont see holes in your wrappers at this point, you are probably just fine.

Yikes...

How often are beetles a problem in cigars? I'm kinda freaked out haha... (being a newbie here)

not as often as you would think.

its a big enough problem that you should know about them, how to prevent them, and how to clean up after them, but not so much that you need to lose sleep over them.

Oddly enough I dreamt about them last night.

I picked up a stick and it had big holes in it, like termite trails. More and more spread as I looked it over. I chucked it, and grabbed another. Same thing. Then I looked in my humi and it was crawling with black beetles about the size of a nickel and the were crawling/chewing their way out of all the cigars in there. I freaked out and woke up. Not cool.

Beetles

I don't know what kind of beetles are in cigar. But when I was in Texas there were some kind of"weevils" or something that would bore right through Heavy plastic to get the the rice and what not.

I left a c.com cuban label in my car for 3 months during the hot summer we've had. And no sign of any beetles.

I've had the A/C go out in my 3rd floor Apt several times this summer. A couple of times it happened over the weekends, with my coolidor reaching the mid 80`s. Haven't seen a beetle yet.

Keep in mind that tobacco beetles (Lasioderma serricorne), like all other insects, do not spontaneously generate. That is, it's not enough that you simply leave your sticks laying around for a while and the beetles will appear, but the adults need to find your cigars and lay eggs before the damage will occur. Even though the adults are strong fliers, they are usually spread via infested materials. So the real danger is bringing infested cigars to your humidor, not so much leaving them unattended.

I know the beetles can eat through your cello but what if you have some in a ziplock bag? will they eat through it?

Dave from what I understand if they are given the time they can eat through a plastic bag.
