Seasoning Question

Yes I am new here and I will go to the get to know you thread asap. I have already read the humidor sticky and done a couple of searches to try and answer these questions. I am currently using two small humidors, one is 75-100 ct and for aging a 15 ct. my two questions are how often do you reseason? I read around every 3-4 months some place. The reason I ask is I've been into this about 2 yrs as far as storing/aging my own sticks. I am hoping to get a cabinet style in the next year and use a CO. Will I have to reseason the cabinet as well? Now I am able to store my cigars in tupperware while I am doing this. My fear is once I have a cabinet I will not be able to. Is this why some do the frig? Sorry for the long post but couldn't find the answers on my own.

The only reason I can think of to re-season a humidor is if the humidifier either went dry or was removed. If that happened the moisture within the humidor would be drawn out into the air and need to be re-seasoned before adding sticks back in.

Thanx for the input. I am still using the credos to humidify. I had a problem awhile back because I was using a analog hygrometer, since went digital and no more problems. Since going digital, 3 months ago I am in better control of the RH but how many points down till adding more fluid.

Guys with a cabinet, so no reseasoning needed?

if you season once you are good... as long as you keep your RH in the range you want. Size makes no difference at all. 65% RH is 65% RH in a small humi or in a big one. the more wood may actually hold RH better.

I've had my 300 count for over a year and never had to reseason, same with my older smaller humi. As long as you maintain your humidity, and you'll find that will get challenging with the winter approaching, you should be fine.

Thanks guys! I am pretty sure my issues had to do more with my analog hydrometer. Since I am digital now I feel (and I just recently salt tested) I think I will be fine.

Hey NJsmokey where in jersey are you from. There are a bunch of us here from NJ. I'm originally from mendham, and I'm in edgewater now (when I'm home from school).

Lax I moved into Burlington County about 2 years ago. I don't want to get more specfic because of what I do for a living. But I have a question for your. Is Speedy's still the freshman bar in Morgantown?

No more speedy's that i know of. There's Illusions, which used to the brass rail, and there's Envy for the frosh.

Envy was opened when I was there. Went for my first two years before transfering to Rutgers. I lived in Arnold hall as a Frosh.
