Rotation?

The last two sticks I smoked out of me humi burned a little uneven. They where different brands and sizes. I have no good observations about the first stick other than it was near the top of the stack inside (not sure but maybe right on top) because I had to cut it short. The second also came right from the top and had a similar burn issue. on the second though it went out towards the last third and I cut the ash off rolled the stick between my fingers to lossen it and then it seemed to burn fine. So my question is:

Is being near the top close to the humidity source causing the issue?

or

Is it just because of the roll? Since by hand they are never the same, Thinking this because of the rolling trick working towards the end of the second stick.

If it is being close to the source is that why people rotate there sticks?

I have a small 75-100 ct humi and really dont rotate my sticks besides keeping what I am going to smoke sooner closer to the top. As far as this happening in the past I really only began paying close attention recently. Whenever something burned uneven just considered it a bad roll. Oh and the Rh is between 68 and 70.

Sorry for the long post. :dunno:

I've noticed that I have certain types of cigars (darker wrappers particularly) that tend to burn unevenly right out of my home humi that I keep at around 70% RH.

I've also noticed that if I've moved smokes from home to work (65-68% RH) and smoke them after a few days of them being in the work humi, I don't seem to have those issues.

All of that to say, your RH might be a little high.

in general a humi kept at 65% RH will burn more even than at 70%

if that doenst work... im not sure what to tell you.

for the record. I rotate my humi every 6 months or so. (bands face up vs. bands face down) usually i run through them faster than that though....

the humidor that i keep for aging.... i rotate once a year.

and every 2 years he sends me his complete collection

thanks I will try to keep it a little lower. I had issues in the past because of a bad hygrometer so once I got it at 70% I was a little apprehensive to let it go down. I will somke one from the bottom and see If that has burn issues. Thanks guys!

I think as long as you keep it above 61-62 you will be fine. before dropping it you can try to dry box a cigar or two and see if you like it. Take a cigar and place it in a non humidified box for 6-10 hours. it will pull the RH down and see how it smokes.

I use a three tiered system for my cigars. I have a fridgedor that is set at 70% for aging. I have a 250 ct humidor that is set at 63% and I have a cigar caddy that has no humidification system. I move my cigars from the fridgedor to the humidor to the caddy the last transfer comes the night before the cigar is smoked. I live in a very dry climate and extreme temperature changes and I have found this system works best. I think if I lived in a wetter climate I would not feel the need to do this. It was my local B&M dealer that showed me this system and the burn qualities of my cigars has improved since using it.

I personaly never rotate. My humidors stays pretty consistant at 66% top to bottom. Not sure if it is a bad thing not to rotate, but I have never had a problem.

ditto the only rotation my cigars get is from me digging around for something to smoke

I just smoked a stick that was at the bottom of my humi and the burn was flawless. I am going to keep an eye on it for awhile but I am feeling it is beeing close to the humidity source or just a fluke that I got to sticks in a row with burn issues. Thanks again and I will try some of your suggestions over time.

Mine get rotated as I dig through it for that Cusano or Oliva! I noticed that mine are better when I get them from the bottom as well.
