lots of spit?

Here is kind of a newbie question

I really really really enjoy a cigar at the end of my day, sitting out on the pool deck, on the computer or reading, and a nice cigar, but there is a problem

I've been smoking for about 6 months and I've always had a big problem with having to spit a lot. When a cigar first starts out the taste isn't potent enough and I dont have to spit but once I get close to the end of a cigar I find it almost imbearable to swallow the increasing amount of spit that my mouth creates after every puff, hopefully this hasn't grossed anyone out but if there are any tips to overcome this I would really appreciate it :)
 
how fast are you smoking? slow down I seemed to have the same issue and salivated quite a bit, I slowed down so the smoke was cooler and less acidic which seems to stop me from salivating so much.

I had a similar problem before, read a post about only puffing once a min or so and I have had much more enjoyable smokes!

Also found haveing somehting to sip on helps.
 
I have found that some cigars that have a strong acidic flavor cause this. Sorry, I should keep better notes or take more ginka biloba so I can remember which ones. But, you may try a different cigar and see.
 
twoputts hit the nail on the head. If you refer down to the drawing of the palate on an earlier thread you will see the various regions. Cigars that stimulate the acid regions of the palate cause a natural reaction for your mouth to water. More than likely what happens is that when the cigar is smoked to quickly it causes a bit of a buildup at toward the head of the cigar which greatly alters the intended flavor of the smoke. You acidic receptors are clearly more sensitive to the flavor change. This is not uncommon.
 
tried smoking a cigar slower today and noticed a dramatic difference, thank you for the input it really helped :)
 
Thats the one I was talking about. Need to figure out how to use the boards better so I can help guys as much as I have been helped.
 
just had a gurkha grand age, and I'm pretty proud of myself, made it last two hours and forty eight minutes without spitting once *pats self on back*
