Oust fan/Beads question?

Quick question about the oust fans. I understand why it is a good idea to use one. But what size humi is too small. I just got a new 200 ct with two top shelves and a three section bottom. The top was much more humid then the bottom. I removed the credos from the inside of the lid and it has since balanced out. Is this humi too small for one? I am thinking about using beads, is that a better solution for a humi this size? I do have a tube with crystals in the bottom that I use for my leather travel case and it keep the bottom nice and even. My other desktop is only a 75-100 count and with no shelves I never had this problem. Just wondering what has worked for others. Thanks in advance.

I'd get the beads anyway. They're a good investment. If as you said, there's a difference in humidity at different levels in the humidor, then I don't see anything wrong with getting the oust fan either.

an oust fan in a 200 ct may just turn it into a 150 ct. to me thats more damage than good.

over load with beads. some up top ... some on the bottom. whatever area is more humid more often would be the ones i never recharge. thats how i would work untill i got the the 350ct range.... then oasis and beads. i wouldnt (personally) worry about a fan till i was in the 500-700ct range.

thats just me. I dont have a humi over 120 ct. If i did, that would be my plan

Perry, you can get the beads at Heartfelt Industries or Cigarmont.com. Both guys will treat you right and answer any questions.

You can never use to many beads. In fact, they recommend using more than you need to help with recovery time from opening your humidor.

I am currently using double what I need. I have 2oz. of dry beads mounted to the lid of my humidor, 2oz. of wet on top shelf, 2oz. of wet on middle shelf, and 2oz. or wet beads on bottom. My humidity issues have gone away. You can ask the guys in the chat room. I was constantly worried about my humidity. With the beads, the worries went away.

My humidor is a 500ct. I have room for an oust fan (in fact i own one) but I do not want to sacrifice that room. I do believe a large humidor (stand up cabinet or coolidor) would benefit by using a fan.

I truely believe that if you start using beads, your humidity issues will go away IMHO. Hope this helps!!!!

Perry, also let me add:

As I'm sure you know, you can buy the beads for different humidity levels. 60%, 65%, and 70%. The beads are designed not only to release humidity but also to absorb excess humidity. That is why you must also have dry beads. Cool concept. I'm not smart enough to know how they work but they do. After a period of time watching your hygrometer, you will get to trust the beads. I'm almost to the point where I may stop using hygrometers.

Unless you have a faulty seal on your humidor, you certainly can't go wrong by using beads.

Thanks guys, I thought the fan might be a little much for that size humi. I am going to get some beads as soon as my cigar fund rebounds.

If you're handy in electronics, Radio Shack sells very small 12VDC computer fans that you could rig up to a battery pack that would be about 1/2 the size of a Oust. On the flip side it'll probably cost more. But distributing beads throughout your humi will almost certainly alleviate your humidity stratification problems.

I think I am handy. But my wife still isn't sure. I might give those a look to just because I like options. Thanks again for all the input.
This place is great!
