My first Opus X

Well I wanted to wait for a special occasion and this was it. My friend that I have known since kindergarten was getting married. I actually introduced them at a scotch tasting. Ha Ha my plan worked now he is not moving to Florida. Anyway after him and his bride left we packed the tables, chairs, and tents back in the moving truck so my friends dad and I could return them to the military base where they were rented. After that the party pretty much died. So nine of us went to one the nines house and had Chinese food. After that we took the bottle of 18 Macallen and got in the hot tub. I brought some cigars and gave them to the three people joining me. I then smoked the Opus-X. It was very smooth and tasty. I do not think it is worth the MSRP (good thing I didn't pay that).

Cheers
Martin

Martin, they are definitely worth the MSRP (8.50-20.00) but they are not worth the mark-up. Glad you had a good time!

I am patiently waiting for mine to settle a little before I smoke them, but it sounds like you enjoyed yours, and will remember that day for a long time. Congratulations brother!!

I'm waiting for a post from kelvin talking about his first opus X

Definately a refined cigar.

I'm just waiting for you to come golfing during your break - this way we can sit on the back porch and smoke them together. Nothing better than smoking a cigar with a buddy!

I too finally had a chance to try the Opus X this weekend. It definitly lived up to the hype. I will have to buy a few of these babies and let them age in my humi. Anyone else try the Opus and have a hard time keeping it lit? I had to re-light at least three times. I bought it from a cigar shop inside one of the casinos at Lake Tahoe. Im wondering if the altitude had anything to do with it. At any rate, while it was lit, was a wonderful full-bodied smoke leaving not much to be desired. Anyone know of a place to shop for these online for a reasonable price? Thanks.

STP, most Opus I have smoked have taken a few corrections to keep them going. But, they sure are worth the work!

It is the oils in them that cause this difficulty. Just let them rest for a while if you can resist, and they do get better. Apparantley the King B's are the worst for this, and so they got a bad rap for that same problem.

There you go brother, enjoy your next one!! 8) 8)

Where do you guys go to find Opus X for less than 36 bucks a stick? I have a very close reletive getting married in 2 weeks and I'd like to get us both one to smoke together.

To be honest with you, probably the best place to go is your local tobacconist. I know some places will only allow you to buy 2 sticks or something like that per visit, but the prices are around the 9-10 dollar range.

The shops in St. Louis and Carbondale are fairly generous and will allow you to purchase as many sticks as you want as long as they have them to sell...and they're around $9.75 a stick.

If you do get them online, I'm sure some of the folks in this forum can give you better info, but be sure to purchase them from locations with low tobacco taxes...that way the chances or a ridiculous markup is a tiny bit less. Although due to scarcity they'll probably jack them up anyways.

Good luck in your search
