Maduro Criollo

I paired this cigar with some Kona Coffee & Bottled Water.

Length 4&15/16ths + Pig Tail
Ring Gauge 48

Wrapper – Maduro nice rich brown, silky & an oily sheen.
I would not call this oily but more silk like.
No big veins, no flaws in the wrapper.
I tasted the wrapper before cutting the cigar:
Rich Sweet taste as I’d expect with a Maduro cigar.
I rolled the cigar between my fingers – Very firm.
It made me wonder if it would have a tight draw.
I used my Swiss Army knife cutter.
I barely cut into the cap to remove as little of the cigar as possible.
This cigar was rolled very solid.

To my surprise the pre-light draw was perfect!

I toasted the cigar with a torch lighter, blew all the smoke out of my cigar,
Gently blew on the tip & saw it had a good light.
The first few puffs have a dark woody flavor – Mahogany.
Lots of smoke I can tell this is a strong cigar.
My lips tingle –
The Smoke lays on the underside edges & roof of my mouth.
I can also detect a hint of citrus flavor.
I try not to smoke young cigars – with time I think
The flavor of Chestnuts seem to be hidden in the youngness of the cigar.

The burn is perfect bringing the cherry to a slight point,
Evidence of the Cigars solid construction.
The ash is firm & holds on well with a Grey/Black color.

Just before the ½ way point the cigar really change its flavor!
It softened into a Woody Almond with a very soft cedar note.
The smoke has come forward and is resting along the top of my tongue.
I decide to blow a little smoke through my nose.
The flavor rolls back and covers my entire mouth.
The cedar comes forward a little more, but this Almond flavor
Hangs in there – very nice!

The last third of the cigar also showed a shift in flavors.
The cigar is well balanced the flavor changes come subtly.
The cigars strength seems balanced in the blending of the tobacco.
It did not give me a knock out punch I expected.
The finish of this cigar is smooth –
The cedar flavor has come out, but not with any bite.
Creamy Cedar notes high on the roof of my mouth, while
the inside front of my lip has a sweetness from the Maduro wrapper.
I laid this cigar down leaving 1 inch & for the ashtray.

Over all I enjoyed this cigar.
It paired nicely with the coffee I never drank any water.
I think it is a little stronger the natural Criollo, but it has been a long
Time since I have smoked one.
A nice after dinner cigar (or Breakfast! )

I'm looking forward to your Vision review. I'm still debating whether to get these site-unseen.

It will be mid-week before I can sit for an hour and just enjoy the cigar. I need to take notes while smoking or my reviews aren't as good.
Nice looking cigar!
I've always thought CAO made nice quality cigars.

That said I don't recall having one for many years -

The Brazilia and MX2 lines are both very good. Other than that, I don't smoke very many CAO's. I recall the Maduro line being good though.
