About two years ago I obtained a box of Vegas Robaina Famosos. I thought they were going to be pretty low-end quality (by Cuban standards) since they were Robusto size but cost the same as a box of panatelas or lonsdales. To my amazement they were on par with the Cohiba and Opus X of the same size. I smoked my last one a year ago and since then I’ve always thought back to that box of Famosos.

Recently I was able to secure some Vegas Robaina Don Alejandros. They are the size of a Double Corona. Either someone screwed up the price two years ago or I was very lucky. The Don Alejandros cost the same as all the other top Cuban brands of comparable size.

The Don Alejandros cigars are named after one of Cuba’s best tobacco growers, Don Alejandro Robaina. His family has been growing tobacco in the San Luis region since the middle of the last century. I was very much looking forward to lighting up my first Don Alejandro. After smoking half of the cigar it was clearly one of the finest smokes I’ve had in years. While milder than a Cohiba it still has an excellent flavor. The draw was perfect, something I can’t say for many cigars this size.

For those of you who will be traveling overseas or happen to have some decent sources stateside, you must try one of these cigars out. You will not be disappointed.

I asume you've left a sufficient supply in the staff lounge?
