When I hit the night air outside of . . .

Grand Central Terminal shortly after 0000 hours, I found unusually chilly air, but then again, I've become unusually sensitive, and after this winter, and some of the problems affording asthma medication and trouble with injuries, any chilly breeze blows right through me like a knife.

But with the temperature having skied to 62 both in the city and up at my house this afternoon, I knew it wouldn't be so cold as to discourage me from having a cigar before work.

Two of the cigars in my Havana Pocket Humidor at present are large, Churchill sized sticks, but there was one in there about five inches long or so, and around a 44 ring, just the right size to have before work.

The band is quite elaborate and colorful, but we all know a beautiful label, big name and a high price tag can still mean nothing but dogrocket. I'm not sure of the price of these, but this was the famous re-release of La Vieja Habana, now being handled by Drew Estates.

Now, because of their famous line of much hyped exotically flavored cigars, I'm inclined to think the worst the minute I hear the name Drew Estates, being a purist, but I've heard that they do some fine things with cigars made of nothing but, WOW(!!!), regular, unflavored tobacco.

This cigar, which I lit at 0013 hours for the walk up Lexington Avenue, drew perfectly from the first light and the flavor was rich with a medium body right from the first puff. I don't know if any of you remember Magic Mommy brownies, but they had two mainstays, a regular, rather dry, not too sweet but still delicious chocolate with walnuts, and another moist, very cake-like dark chocolate brownie with raisins.

Believe it or not, this cigar tasted like a fantastic combination of both of those products all the way through, ending with a rousing and very interesting combination of garlic and cloves. The sweet chocolate, coffee, walnut and raisin flavors were quite evident throughout the cigar, never wavering and providing a wonderful, if somewhat short smoking experience as I took my last puff at 0041 hours and went inside the building to sign in and begin work.

If you haven't tried the highly publicized re-release of La Vieja Habana now being handled by Drew Estates, it might be worth looking into. Don't know what they want for these, but it's a good smoke.

your narative was more exciting than the cigar it self, I have smoked a few of them & found the cut filler was a big turn off, every size I smoked I got a lot of bits of tobacco in my mouth , the torp was the best of the bunch & the churchill was the worst, every puff was a few more bits of flaked tabacco, I will check them out the next time we fill the humidor at the shop Yes it did have a nice taste, but I hate all the spitting ! Enjoy, Vince

You never gave me a bum steer, so I'll put that one in my cranial files, too.

OOOOOOOOOPPPPSSSSSSS, HOLD ON, THERE'S TROUBLE IN THE LOWER FORTY!!!

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

That bum steer got loose again. I'll be back after I take care of this.
