Cuban Romeo y Julieta Belicoso, August 2001. . . .

Last night, after speaking to the local taxi company and finding out that for the umpteenth Sunday in a row three drivers had called in sick, I resigned myself to the realization that I'd be staying home and watching two 3-11 teams play a football game.

There's nothing really wrong with that, since I love football, but I could've used the money as this year's been bad enough without local taxi drivers screwing up my work schedule. Ahhhhhhh, but it's all in the philosophy of the moment isn't it? If I look at ANYONE else as "screwing up" my life, is that not rather unrighteous and against my own beliefs?

So, I decided not to dwell on it, but as I often do in situations like this, I simply throw up my hands and declare "it's God's will." :dunno:

And I love football, but watching two 3-11 teams on national television could be an exercise in boredom, and I was feeling sluggish from eating most of Bigg Bosss Mann's wonderful gift all weekend, including other goodies I've had in the house, as well as regular healthy food of course. Well, the gift wasn't all that unhealthy actually, just not the kind of stuff you should be subsisting on from day to day, except leisurely weekends. :D

So, I wanted a cigar, but nothing too big, and nothing too strong. I went into Desk Top II and found a torpedo style cigar with a plain white band that had been typed on, the original band having been removed for shipping. It said RyJ Beli, Aug. '01, which is indicative of a Cuban sent to me by an internet cigar friend. In this case I believe that friend is none other than our own Castle Crest, and I think the shipment was at least six months ago. The August 2001 is likely an original box code, perhaps a production date.

I stared at it quizzically. These things are notoriously strong, at least for me, but it wasn't too big I thought. I'd been eating very well, didn't have an empty stomach, and in order not to die from boredom watching this game, it could be a big help. The game was turning into a defensive struggle already, or was it offensive ineptitude, as I lit this cigar at exactly 2100 hours.

The cigar had a soft, deerskin-like wrapper, as so many of the great Cuban cigars do. I have said many times over the years that I have smoked no cigar that is as consistently pleasing as a good Cuban cigar, even the great Non-Cubans like the overpriced Opus X and almost equally overpriced Padron Anniversario Maduros, along with others. From puff to puff, a good Cuban cigar's complexity, sophistication and development of flavors in the individuals tobaccos are rarely, if ever matched by any Non-Cuban cigar.

In nearly eight and a half years of smoking cigars I have tried well over 100 hundred different brands, including at least 15-20 different brands of Cuban cigars. Almost all of these Cubans have been obtained from impeccable sources, therefore the genuine nature has been as guaranteed as it could possibly be. I have been blessed in meeting the people that I have, because they have introduced me to treats that many much longer term cigar smokers have not had.

This incredibly delicious cigar drew very easily right from the start. And right from the start, the flavors were well developed, bold and distinct, with that telltale Cuban flavor, not of any sort of food, but that of MATURE TOBACCO.

What I experienced throughout the period of smoking, which lasted until exactly 2222 hours, was a cigar that gave flavors of very sweet tobacco, a flavor that built until the very end, along with lavender perfume, sweet licorice, and very sweet, heavy cream along with delicious floral tastes and an alluring, floral aroma to go along with it.

When it comes to cigar ratings in popular magazines, give them as much credit as they deserve (questionable in my opinion), but never, ever ignore your own palate. This Romeo y Julieta Belicoso was, like so many other Cubans, simply one of the best cigars I've ever had, complete in every way.

And last but not least, yes it did kick me pretty hard, but thankfully, the kick didn't last all that long.

VERY THANKFULLY!!!

How a guy can rage on about his financial situation and without pausing for air then rant about his taxi (which for me = a luxury!) situation is unbelievable.

Well, when you live up in the hills seven miles from the train station and you don't have a car, you either take a taxi or you take a hike and move back to NYC!!! Uh uh, that ain't an option!!!

Bloof,
Don't remember if it was me or not, but I hope so!
I enjoyed reading & sharing this moment more than I would of smoking the cigar.
You give so much to this forum it is good that some special treats come of it!
& on top of everything the Jets made the play offs!
On a side note (taxi related kind of) I have often sat home with very little funding for anything - but a fine Habanos has made this mortal coil slip away and I stand outside time and space.
It is a place I enjoy so very much!
I am pleased to share these things.
You will know us we are the guys in the homeless shelter -
the ones smoking the Habanos with the big smile on our faces!
Live Large - Life is good no matter how hard it gets!

Well, I'm not so sure the Jets MADE the playoffs. That's a stretch. But a friend of mine did lay three Cohiba Esplendidos on me tonight, and I DO believe they're genuine. :neer:

Great Times

I tell you what, there is nothing better than a good cuban. Over the summer all I had were cubans. Since coming back from mexico i have only a few left for those special occasions when you really need a good smoke. I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one who enjoys haveing a cigar when things seem to not be at there best. It always seems to make things better. As for the Jets can you believe that they missed two field goals to win.......... oh my it was a heart breaker. Defenitly needed a pick me up after that
