A taxi driver's suggestion . . .

strikes a chord.

Whenever I head off to the train station to go to the city for work, I have instituted a "one last call" policy before the train comes in. Bad enough to get cancelled from work a few times a year, bad enough I have to spend the taxi fare to go to and from the train station for no good reason other than to enjoy the scenery of semi-rural suburbia, but to board the train and get my ticket punched and have to get off at the next stop is more than self defeating.

So, as the train was pulling into New Hamburg station, having left the house one hour earlier than usual, I was listening to a message from my supervisor at the firm. It had been left at 2031 hours, saying that I was cancelled tonight. Funny, I had a sneaking suspicion that was going to happen.

And I couldn't fault anyone. I have asked to be notified at 2100-2130 hours in the event of a cancellation, at the very latest if possible, and the firm and my agency have been nicely compliant. It's just that I had to leave early to make a trip to a client/friend in Queens before heading to Manhattan to work.

So, I called the taxi company back and soon was wending my way home, telling the driver that it was a "glass half full" situation, since at least I wasn't out the price of a train ticket one way, or better yet, that I hadn't made it almost to the city, and then had to get another punch on my ticket to come all the way back up.

After mentioning how it would be nice to have the extra rest, and that maybe I could get some more work done on the house tomorrow, the driver who has been one of my regulars since I moved up here several years ago, and knows my inclinations suggested kicking back with a cigar and a drink.

A CAPITAL IDEA!!!

And that's just what I did. At 2150 hours I picked out a Padron Churchill natural wrapper from Desk Top IV, and at 2300 hours I was finished with a cigar that had the basic Padron flavor profile of coffee and rich chocolate. Perfect construction and draw, full of rich smoke and quite simple, straightforward.

The regular Padron, a nice relaxing, uncomplicated cigar. Accompanying this was a two shot glass of Eagle Rare 10 year old single barrel, 90 proof bourbon.

It's not such a bad night here at "1313 Mockingbird Lane", the eye sore of Dutchess Park, Brinckerhoff, NY. Always a pleasure to be relaxing in my house, Olde Homebody that I am.

And I'm sure The Lord will return the night's pay and taxi fare I "lost."

He twisted your arm right?

Bloof are you saying that wasn't what you were going to do if the taxi driver hadn't suggested it?

I think we'v come to know you a little better than that!
