Opus X and Cubans Move Over

Okay, as some of you know I am kind of an opus nut but I have now located my replacement smoke that is better, cheaper, and oh my god I cant say enough. Camacho Corojo Ltd. I just smoked the diploma and I am not sure I can really ever enjoy another cigar. The benchmark has been set. Body and aroma were very stong like the opus but I just can't explain it, it was just the best experience ever. This will surely replace almost all cubans and opus in my humidor. Today is the first day in the rest of my cigar smoking life.

I'm half Puerto-Rican, should I move over too? :cryinlaugh: :sm_angel:

No seriously, I never met someone from the island of Opus before. This Opus X guy, is he an American Muslim? :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

As for the cigar, that's what I've heard. They're REAL good. But I'm sure of one thing. It's probably too strong for me. I'd have to age one of those things about two years to make it safe for me to smoke.

Camacho

I have to disagree on this one. I smoked a Corojo torpedo about 3 years ago and it was the last one. To me, it was way too much force with no flavor; all heat. It was like smoking a friggin' burning log from the fireplace. No comparison to the Opus-X in my opinion...but that's me. Now if you want muscle with excellent taste, I would say hit the Ashton VSG "Spellbound," Nice!!!

Donno... you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I do love the VSG spellbound. However, you should try the diploma from camacho. The torpedo you are referring to is in an entirely differnt camacho line. Happy smoking boys.

Different offerings from the same maker

That's been my experience, not with the cigars in question specifically, but with cigars in general. I may love one line and not care much for another, even when produced by the same maker. The closest thing to an exception to this would be C.A.O who, on my palate, can do no wrong!

Hmmm ... feeling a craving coming on. :)

Mac,

Perhaps I was a little premature in making this assertion. Tell ya' what: I'm gonna' fire up a Diploma and get back to you on this one. To be continued.

Sir Bloofington, aka The Great Dumboni... You think Opus X is too strong?? Gimme the word, cowboy, I have a double Corona here from 1996, yours for the taking. Is that longer than two years of aging?

Donno,

Just finished a spellbound. While I had one before it was fantastic. I was not in the mood for one until you mentioned it. Thanks for the suggestion, always a homerun but I am still partail to the torpedo.

Spellbound

Mac,

Don't get me wrong, The torpedo VSG is huge! For that matter, they're ll good: Sorcerer, enchantment, robusto...I'll take any of them. The Spellbound just came to mind.

Back to the Camachos: I was reading some write-ups that said the "SLR" is even nicer (more flavorful) than the Diploma. Have you come across this one? If so, what are your thoughts?

SLR uses a non corojo wrapper and in my opinion is not as good. I would put it in the same league as the regular camacho corojo as far as quality and flavor only twice the price. But it is still a great smoke, if you have not tried I certainly would not deter you.

If you are looking for less body and like the camacho stuff another suggestion is the la fontana vintage that they make. I was always afraid of sweet tips until I tried this one. Excellent mild yet full flavored cigar. The sweet tip is only present for the first few puffs and really takes some of the edge of the cigar when you first light it. Apparently I read somewhere that all cubans back in the day used to come this way standard but that was before my time. Perhaps anyone reading this with more cuban cigar know how can shed some light on that.

Yeah Colonel, 1996 is more than two years of aging and if you wish to part with it, that's none of my business. :sm_angel:

Mac,

Having said that about the SLR, I would definitiely stick with the Diploma. But I will also keep my eye out for the Fontana. Oh hell, I'll try all three of them.
