Any recommendations on a Smoke Eater

I'm planning a media / rec room for my husband. I'm going to include a humidor and finally let him smoke in the house if I can get a recommendation for a good residential smoke eater.

This will be in a finished basement with 9 foot ceilings. Can't do a drop in unit. May consider a ceiling mount unit. Probably prefer a portable unit.

Any recommendations?

Thanks, JEN

First off, make sure the ceiling has a double layer of vapor barrier. Keep away from carpet and cloth furniture if possible. You'll want an outside type entrance door at the bottom of the stairs. The kind that seals out air exchange.

Czonka company has air filtration systems specificly made for the home cigar smoker. They work very well. I don't know the web address, but I'm sure you can find it with a simple internet search. You may want to consider bathroom type exhaust fans as well. The more air moved, the better. Vent what you can to the outside. Three or more shallow dishes of white vinigar will do wonders for the stale smoke odor.

So just put some White vinigar into a couple dishes and set out in the open? How does it cure the smoke odor? Does it leave any vinigar smell? Would this also work for cars, when it is not in use?

Vinigar absorbs odors. White vinigar has little smell. You just have to change it as it turns color. You can use it anywhere.

Thanks for the info Col.

You should check out the Ionic Breeze air systems. Ive heard great things about them, but they are out of my price range. Search the forum; a topid thread included discussion about them and other air cleaners.

Those ionic things don't have the air exchange needed to properly vent cigars. It's a good suppliment to other filters, but not alone.

Thanks Colonel,

I appreciate the quick response to my post. I've found several sites that offer the Csonka unit and I'm checking them out.

I've also found another unit the CaluTech Hurricane that incorporates Ultraviolet, Carbon and Electrostatic features.

Thanks again. JEN

Great subject and I need help.
I smoke in a upstairs Cape Cod bedroom/office that is 300 square feet.I purchased a desktop Oreck Air 7. Doesn't do a good job- a waste of money.I have three windows in this room and use a floor fan in an attempt to exhaust the air- not always sucessful.I think the answer is a through the wall exhaust fan- hard wired- as close to the cigar smoker as possible.
Help me with this.

Ionic Breeze Quadra by The Sharper Image. Worth every penny and it does work. By two, get the second one for half price. They even throw in freebie small ones these days with a deal like that, either for the bathroom or car.

one thing to remember is in a sealed room you need to replace the air that is being blown out of a window. get two high cfm fans, one blowing in, one blowing out. but thats only gonna work in the summer, if its summer why smoke indoors anyway?

My neighbor, a retired older gent, had his son build a "sun room" to attach to his back porch last year. It is completly sealed off form the rest of the house and 75% of it is that netting stuff in windows so it airs out very qucikly. It is really only usable int the summer, or a day like today! I saw him over their puffing away watching the birds and rabbits frollic in his garden(i know it sounds cheesy but its true) What a way to retire. . . I went over there with a cigar in hand and asked if I could join him. We talked and just enjoyed the weather and life. I could go on and on but my point is those sun rooms are inexpeinsive, the wife/spouse wont be complaining, and they are a great utility room, even put a TV out there. If this fits ya. go for it. Just putting another option on the list.
