Pre-smoke?

I've seen a few people mention pre-smoke. What exactly is this? Is it the general gnawing on the cigar before lighting up?

it just refers to the time you have with a cigar before you are smoking it. could mean you are sucking on it like a loli or could be your just sniffing it like a perv in a lingerie shop.

Our former President Bill Clinton would be the one to ask that question to. Monica may have some insight as well.

The pre-smoke is the key to me.
I clip the end and softly puff the cigar unlit. This can take from 10 to 30 seconds.I try to pre-identify the taste of the cigar.
The fun begins when you light the cigar- how close does the smoke flavor match the pre-smoke flavor, and does the flavor stay the same throughout the lenght of the cigar.
The Padron 3000 stays the same throughout- very good, but not complex. My opinion this is the best priced cigar available.
The Diploma starts very good and changes- complex- very, very good.
These are just two examples.

On that note, I'm pre smoking a flor de olivia torpedo. The wrapper is so nice and oily it is like applying chapstick to my lips! I'm playing golf in 15 and I have 5 cigars on hand. What a day.

Naw it was back home. I work at Tunxis Plantation Country Club during the summers. Free golf, free carts, free range balls all the time. Needless to say, I've been playing alot these past few years.

I definately spend some time w/my cigars before lighting. Smell, taste, touch. I try to pick up on some aromas or guess what the cigar will taste like from it, but it never really tastes how it smells. I can vaguely pick up on some aromas, from say Padrons, Fuente or the Cien Anos's, but it's pretty subtle. So I guess I do have a pre-smoke routine...
