A free copy was delivered today. What a bunch of snobs. Who is writing their ratings - they are not smoking what we are. Some of the descriptions are wild. A nice nipple shot. Interesting article on Opus X and Myers. A total waste of money. I can just picture a bunch of guys sitting in a room with a finger up each others ???getting crazy. Not my cup of tea. Must be the pain pills kicking in.

It used to be nice when that magazine was about the cigars.
Remember the first few years when the word "Cigar" was larger than "Aficionado"?

First one I have read. Won't be a second. Magazine is a fraud.Ratings must be driven by the advertisers. How can Opus X not come in first? Where are the Cubans? Most are Dominicans which I don't care for. The Myers article was a good read- his opinion on the best producers by Country. Isn't it amazing Cuba came in best. Must be the short name.

ALL about the advertisers. Back issues are 25 bucks! And even their website has changed. Used to be you could look up just about any cigar rating, but now they have a limited number available for public view. You want to see them all you need a paid subscription to Cigar Insider. Lucky for us there's Top 25. Incidentally, I read your review of Camacho Diploma. Well put.

CA is absolutely rediculous. Half of it is ads and most of the rest isn't even cigar related. A really nice way to waste money, and that is putting it nicely. La Gloria Cubana better than a real Montecristo No. 2? A Juan Lopez better than a limited edition Partagas Serie D? And, best of all, Onyx Reserve the best non-cuban ever sampled?

Get me some waders, because that's some knee-deep bulls@$% there.

Axe:
I like the cigar. Not my normal earthy type, but a very good smoke. My thanks to Macallan reference the Caribe line- top drawer.

Yeah, maybe the best NC to start a campfire with when you run out of fuel sticks!

Malone, I known what you mean. Different earthiness than a Padron. For some reason up until last month Padrons fell out of favor with me, maybe I was smoking too many too often. But I recently broke open a box of '64's I've been aging since 2002 and they are high on my list again. I guess my taste buds were in a rut, but now even the 3000's taste better than ever.

Have you noticed that newly released cigars generally get very high ratings in their first tastings in CA? Hmmm....

yea they do, and they write what ever BS they want about cigars.

The best part is they write their rating based on one stick. ONE stick doesn't tell you what the whole selection is like. I love when i see one that says tight or loose draw. There is no way to say based on one stick that the entire line is tight or loose.

Not to offend the onyx lovers but Best NC ever is way off. That stick is a dog rocket. Just thinking about cigars they have rated lower than the onyx makes me laugh. A padron 1926 wasn't even as high if i recall. And i have heard good points in a debate on it being the best cigar out there now.

Its impossible to go by those ratings since everyone likes something different. But the ratings are still terrible.

And I agree, you need to smoke a bunch of the same sticks to get an appropriate rating....

Although I have heard that the score is the average from a few different smokers smoking the same stick???

From what I have been told - they rate on 1/2 a stick!

they smoke the first inch or two and that's it!

it might be an average from a few raters, but each rater only has one of the stick. i don't feel like i can give a good rating on a cigar without a few sticks under my belt.

Has anyone looked through Cigar Magazine ?
Picked one up at local shop for a buck, listed for $4.95, wife thought the shop gets them free, what ever.
Lots of articles, haven't taken time to read yet, just browsed through it.
It also has a rating section along with msrp/value.
Lots of cigar adds and probably non cigar adds, some one's got to pay the bills.
Not sure of quality of material inside but a nicely done magazine.

Malone it also had a nice nipple shot.

i will admit that the new CA is the best one i have seen in a while for content... it has the cuban models in it

cigar magazine is not bad, i use the back where they have all the prices of the cuban in spain all the time. I just like to see what everything is running price wise. I don't go by any rating from any magazine. I will smoke cigars only if recommended by a member here or a member at the local shop

Don't you guys also find that a lot of the ratings are pretty high coming out of CA? I refer to top25cigar a lot of the time and a lot of the ratings just don't correspond.

I think I will listen to my fellow cigar smokers at top25 before referring to a magazine that may be giving certain cigars higher ratings just to please certain manufacturers. If they're paid to show ads, they can also be paid to give high ratings.. that's what I think.

you will find this in all areas. i read a lot of computer hardware reviews and they are no different. most of them are sellouts. people start out with good intentions and do a really good job at what they do, then they get greedy and start selling their souls to the man.

Cigar magazine is no better. They are owned by altadis and JR Cigar. Of course they are going to promote their own brands.
