Cigars & Pipes vs Cigarettes

Just got back from the Windy City with my wife and some friends. After some pizza at Pizzeria Due, a walk on the Nacy Pier, and a tour of the Art Institute Museum, we're back in town.

At the hotel, a buddy of mine and I decided to light up. I noticed a sign in the lobby which allowed cigarette smoking, but forbade pipe and cigar smoking. I recall being asked to move outside a few years ago with a stick at a local pub. No biggie except that there were cigarette smokers aplenty in there.

My question is: what's the difference? I don't mean to start a war here, but the logic in a policy like that escapes me.

Thanx

I had that happen to me before too. I found it rather offensive to discriminate in such a manner. Ciggarette smoke is a much less pleasant than pipe or cigar smoke IMO. Thats one of the reasons I went to smoking cigs for several years. I finally gave it up though, now I am down to the occassional cigar...

I have no idea. I think we spoke about this in another thread.

Kind of stupid how some establishments allow cigarettes but no nicely fragrant cigars/pipes.

Times like these call for cigars like an El REy del Mundo Cafe Noir, or maybe a Cuban Partagas Chico. The size is not that different from your average cigarette, you will fit in just fine and no one will be the wizer. The only problem is you have to be in a room with all those stinky cigarettes.

:( This is also one of my Pet Peeves. I have been asked by several places to put my cigar out when there was a room full of cig. smokers. I no longer visit any of those establishments for any reason.
