Question re: Diploma and Cubans

Hi everyone, I am new here to the forums and I had a couple of questions.

I have been smoking cigars for quite a while but until recently I never even thought about buying them online or the fact that there are lots of people to talk to and get info from online (I don't know ANYBODY personally that smokes cigars but myself). So I was quite happy when I found cigar.com and these forums.

I hear everyone talking about the Diploma and how great it is. I personally haven't tried it yet but now I am going to have to. Is everyone talking about the Camacho Corojo Ltd. Dimploma or the Camacho Corojo Ltd. Diploma Maduro. Or maybe both?

On another note, it seems like a lot of people on here smoke cubans. I have looked into trying to get cubans but I am worried about how trustworthy the sources on the internet are when they claim to be selling cubans. I am looking for some input on how everyone else goes about getting themselves cubans.

I look forward to hearing any and all responses. Thanks.

That type of thing is not openly discussed online.

Welcome!
Spend some time get to know people,
hopefully you'll make friends!

Calibus, welcome. Up until last Wednesday, I was a diploma virgin myself. I must say it is one of the fullest, strongest, no-BS cigar I have ever smoked. I have one more to smoke before I will give my opinion, since the one I smoked was fresh from the mail... I know, I know. I should have let it rest for a couple weeks or so. Anyway, when Cigarsmoka sees this post, he is the one that would be able to give the best comparision between the diploma and cubans of similar character. Ryan

I've been there. Sometimes the temptation to try a new cigar is just too damn great to let it wait. Thanks for the input.

its the diploma natural we are all raving about. the maduro isnt as good. dont be fooled though, the natural is very dark. i thought i had gotten the maduros by mistake when i first got one.

OK, that is why I wanted to be sure. I knew that the natural was very dark also so I didn't want to go and buy any without knowing for sure. Thanks. 8)

Be sure to let us know what you think of the Diploma. Where abouts in Oakland are you from? I'll be living in S.F. for a year beginning 8/15. If you ever make your way over the Bay maybe we could get together for a smoke :)

I'm actually in San Leandro but I say Oakland people that don't live in the Bay Area have no clue San Leandro exists. I live right over by Bayfair mall.

As for a smoke, that's a possibility except for the fact that I refuse to step foot in San Francisco. I can't stand driving in that city. Every time I do I lose my temper. I can't even count how many times I have gone the wrong way down a one-way street because there was no sign or had to make 3 lefts to make a right :D

I will probably just buy a box of the Diplomas since everyone speaks so highly of them. I will definately give my input once I smoke a couple.

Hahaha, I was in San Leandro when I took my brother to the Wal Mart for a fridge for his dorm when he started at Cal last year. I know what you mean about the driving  I'm used to Manhattan streets, but S.F. and Seattle drive me crazy. One of the spots on your side of the Bay that I enjoy (with my limited knowledge of the area) is Jack London Square.
Back to the driving for a moment...I never knew what road rage was until I moved to California

Oh yeah, you meet some crazy MFers driving around out here. A lot of people in this area just have no sense.

Jack London Square is a pretty nice little area. They have some good restaraunts down there. I forget the name of the BBQ place off the top of my head but it is excellent. Just ask anyone what the name of the BBQ in Jack London is and they will tell you (you may already know).

You have a brother in college. How old are you?

Gotcha. Still pretty young though. I am about to be 27 and people always look at me funny when they see that I smoke cigars. I rarely see people near my age smoking them unless it is some garbage like Black and Milds  . Do you get that much?

All the time  When I first came out here I went to a few places in L.A. where there were people my age who smoke cigars. But pretty much everyone up there was full of hot air and cigar smoking was merely aesthetic (you know, the cool thing to do). I got a good laugh out of it though.

Yeah, I find it hilarious, yet also quite annoying when I am smoking a cigar at the park and some random person comes up to me and starts talking about cigars.

Most of the haven't the slightest clue what the hell they are talking about but they try to sound all knowledgable. I had some guy come up to me the other day and start telling me how I must not know anything about cigar smoking because I took off the label and EVERYONE knows you are supposed to leave the label on so people know what you are smoking. Then he arged with me when I told him the box of Cuban Cohibas he bought for $150 weren't Cuban but Dominican.

I think it has to do with my age. I think they assume I must be ignorant because I am younger then them.

If you ask me, someone who makes it a point to tell another how to smoke a cigar isn't truly enjoying the whole experience. That's what makes this place so great. You have people from all walks of life and all ages that have been brought together by one common enjoyment.

I've smoked a lot of diplomas and a lot of cuban cigars! Everybody here is a massive diploma fan thanks to Cigarsmoka and the likes who continue to rave on about them!! :cryinlaugh:

They are the real deal, full bodied, put you in your place kind of cigar. Have a good meal, grab your favourite drink and enjoy a diploma any time!!

As for Cubans, I'm based in the UK so I can buy all the cuban cigars I want, which is handy! As for purchasing them from the internet, I'll leave that question to CC - he is the real cuban maestro, I just pretend! - personally I go to a great shop in london called Tom Tom Cigars, and they sort me out whenever supplies run low, which I dont think they shall for a few years!! :rotflmao:

Welcome to the board!!

I sometimes forget that other countries don't have an embargo also and can import from Cuba all they want. I'd have to say I a quite jealous.

Maybe that is how a lot of these people on here get Cubans. They know someone in another country that mails them. However people do get them I can't wait to find out because I want some.

Calibus, its fuuny how broad the age range is here. From what I have seen the youngest is about 22 and the oldest, well........ Let's just say it's not me.. I'm the same age as you are. But what matters is we are all enjoying something we have a common passion for. Ryan

That's great to hear. I really feel like an oddity around here because I don't even see people my age smoking cigars out here.

I'm glad to have found a place where I can share thoughts with other people who love cigars as much as I do.

Calibus, welcome to the board. I have not experienced the same biases, but I'm here in the DC Metro area. I'm 31 and know quite a few cigar smokers around my age, but I can see where you are coming from. Cuban cigars are great smokes, but that isn't to say there isn't a domestic brand or series that your tastes enjoy as much if not more! I know people like CC who smoke cubans almost eclusively, and I know people who miss the whole bus as to why everyone desires a cuban cigar so much.

My point is, if you haven't had many cubans, then try them, but try many different kinds if you can, if you enjoy them, their are many good reputable places online to purchase them. CastleCrest or myself could help, though CC is the patron saint of cuban cigars  , so, he will have much more in depth knowledge then myself.

Try the Diploma, I too am a CigarSmoka convert to Diploma lover, and once again, welcome to the board!
