Cigar bands

This is an ongoing dedate I have had with many people. Who leaves their band on? This is how I determine when or if to take it off.

I let the cigar burn a good inch or so before I try. Many times in my early years I would take it off too soon and tear the wrapper. I let the stick heat up a little to loosen the glue so I don't risk tearing it (wrapper).

I will leave the band on if I am in the yard working, so I dont get any sweat or dirt on the stick from my hands. I like to save my bands and write a little note about them in my log. That way, if I like the smoke, I know the characteristics of it if I want to buy more down the road. Otherwise, I really don't put too much thought into it. hehehe.

So, who here leaves them on??

I also leave it on until the glue warms up enough to remove it safely. Good or bad, the band also goes into my log. I can't even count the number of times I'll check my wallet the day after a night on the town and find bands from cigars that alcohol has erased from my mind
Lately however, I've found that with my cigars which have a decent amount of age on them, the band simply slides off.

Too funny Axe. I just got back from my vacation at Club Med and I counted 22, yes, 22 bands in my wallet. I really can't recall smoking all of them. I guess I will have to go buy the double to each and start over!!

i prefer to peel the band off, ive found that trying to slide it off the end is often disasterous.
theres nothing worse than putting a big old tear in a really nice wrapper

I almost always take the band off, sometimes even before I cut the cigar. I've had a few wrappers tear on me, but most of the time I have no problems at all.

I always leave it on when I light it, then finally peal it off when the ash is just millimeters away from burning the band. I once read that the closer the ash gets to the band, it heats up the glue and makes it easier to take off without damaging the wrapper. Never did any clinical tests to prove that theory, but it’s worked for me for several years now (knock on wood).

I take it off after I cut it and before I light it. I also never slide them, I just peel the overlapping side off. Never really had any problems that I can remember.

If I CAN take it off without destroying the wrapper before I cut and light it I will otherwise I wait a bit into the smoke to where the glue heats up and it comes off easier.
