So Cal
Well, I'm heading up to S.F. in a few minutes. With any luck I'll be near a WI-FI hotspot...otherwise I'll be back when I get an ISP which should be in a few days.

Until then, take care everyone and happy smoking! 8)

Greetings from the not so distant past

I was finally able to get my internet hook-up this afternoon...whew!
It felt like ages since I was able to go online. But that's mainly due to how busy I've been. The first 4 weeks of class is treated like boot camp (proper grooming, full uniform). I have morning classes, so sadly my morning Short Story will have to wait till the weekends. I think I lucked out with my Chef though...he is a fan of cuban cigars (score one for me :D ). But he can still be a SOB...if you happen to have forgotten to shave before class, no problem...you can buy a 2 dollar razor from him and DRY shave in the hallway! I think I'll be packing my Braun just in case my five o'clock shadow sprouts early.
So far, so good. What takes culinary students at CIA in Hyde Park and Johnson & Wales 4 years to learn, I'll be learning in 1, so it's very intense and extremely fast-paced...but that just gets me even more pumped 8)

Anyway, glad to see sooo many new posts and I know my fingers will be cramped by the time I read and post to them all.

Damn, that sucks. You can't have any facial hair? Seems kind of like a discriminating requirement to me. At least he likes Cubans so you should be able to keep on his good side. As for your crash course, sounds like fun but a lot to take in.

Axe, I hope you are going to join the food forum when they get it up and running. I am jealous of you, I wish I would have went to culinary arts, then fire academy!!!

Yeah, it bothered me too at first. But it kind of makes sense...the number one reason for foodborne related illnesses is poor personal hygiene, and a few students in class need all the practice they can get. I know for myself when I have a goatee, the natural reaction would be to touch it for one reason or another. But at least with me I always wash my hands before I touch food or food prep items (something I had a crash course in a few years back due to my bro).

And Capt, I will definetely be hanging out in the food forum!

Hopefully soon, Bloof has the skinny on it. It probably won't be for a while, Amback has alot of bigger issues. But, anyone is more than welcome to post under "Life of a Firehouse Chef " thread. I enjoy food almost as much as smoking.... lol

I see the point of making sure people have good hygiene, it just seems like facial wouldn't be bad if it was trimmed and you didn't touch it while cooking. I personally would go crazy if I couldn't grow my goatee. Without it I look about 17 years old. Oh well, what can you do.
