Interesting perspective on New Orleans

i cant help but be reminded of a similar story a long time ago, about a single man and his family that were selected to survive a giant weather phenomenon and all the evil people died. hmmm what was that from? oh yea the bible. god promised he wouldnt flood the whole world again but he didnt say anything about small cespools of the dregs of society.

I can't really figure out what this has to do with cigars, though I do appreciate my newly homeless friends and family being referred to as the dregs of society. I think a lot of people in this forum realize that New Orleans is actually not an evil city, but instead one of the greatest in the world. I know that all of you who have visited the city have many fond memories. I do not know if you are one of those holier-than-thou types who use the bible to hide your close-mindedness and hatred or if you're just mean, but unless your views on New Orleans have anything to do with cigars, please keep them to yourself.

your the new guy around here, you dont tell me what to talk about here. im not refering to every one that lives there, im refering to the people the article is talking about, the ones attacking rescuers, looting and the ones that wont do anything to help themselves. maybe i should have made that more clear in my short statement. or maybe you shouldnt take things so personal.

That is an interesting perspective. I can see how those PC-minded people could be easily offended by it, but Im offended by the behavior Ive been seeing and hearing down there. Im tired of everyone having to blame someone for this and someone for that. Just quit your whining and do something productive, such as helping out those who could use every bit of support you may be willing to lend.

I don't want to step in on this but in my opinion it doesn't matter whether this relates to cigars because it is a national tragedy and needs to be discussed. I don't think it matters if its here, in the men's room stalls, or the oval office just as long as everything is said and everyone heard.

I don't want to comment on the article because I'll go into a rant that'll get me in trouble. However, I have been watching the news at least 6 hours a day and have seen fingerpointing left and right. To satisfy the masses in a situation like this is impossible, The victims just have to cope. I'm not saying that to be inflammatory but rather because survival is the best a person can do in the situation. I saw people saying "Its hot, its humid, we're being forced to live like animals. This is all Bush's fault." I don't even want to know what these people are being forced to endure but I'm sure of one thing, people can't always help you before you can help yourself so you need to know how to just react.

I'm just going to leave off by saying that I think this says a lot about the American entitlement attitude. So many people live in these conditions everyday but when they happen here to us, they are just unbearable.

I hope that this in no way offends anybody as it was not intended to but please, if you have any objections or would like to talk further, PM me because I'd hate to see this place, a place that which I have grown to love, be turned into some of those other cigar forums.

Oh man look what I started. I just thought it was an interesting perspective. I am in agreement with you guys by far. Sometimes things happen and it is no ones fault that circumstances were such, I just liked the point in the article where they say that disasters like these can lead to some of our countries finest hours where we band together and do support one another. I read in the paper this morning that all these politicians are calling for a commission, which is definately needed to asses our response time and effiency to these disasters. What kills me is all this seems to be about the politics and to asses blame. I think we need to focus on the matter at hand before we launch investigations and start pointing fingers. In my mind, all the efforts for now need to be productive and aimed at restoring that part of the country.

Anyway, I am sorry this was off the cigar beat. Now let me try to redirect this badboy. Hmmmmm..... I smoked a diploma yesterday. Man that cigar still kicks my ass everytime.

its pretty popular around here. I haven't had one in a while, gonna have to get back on the bus.

Welcome aboard the Amback Flagship, acharpe. I see you have gotten your feet wet with your first post.

I was smoking a Montecristo Xanadu when I read the article. IMO that is related to a cigar fourm.

Handmade in: Dominican Republic
Size/Shape: 50*5'' - Robusto
Strength: Full-body Color: Colorado Maduro
Wrapper: Nicaragua Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic

A very good smoke not for the light hearted.

You just missed how everyone is in agreement that MAcanudo is the best cigar in the world...

Well, cigarsmoka just threw this thread into the toilet. It might have to be locked.

Hey man welcome back! I've got to assume you have had a hell of a week......by the way, I've not had one of those Diploma's. I get the feeling it's the forum sweetheart. If your still dazed and confused from the whole marriage deal, that is a mooch attempt.

No need to apologize about being off topic Mac. What Acharpe fails to realize being that he has only been part of this forum for an extremely short period of time, is that we go off topic all the time. I personally found the article rather interesting.

It is unfortunate that Acharpe had friends and family that are having problems in that area. The article obviously isn't referring to every single individual that was put out of house and home. However, and I happen to agree with him, the writer of the article finds that the people down there that are using this crisis to loot and commit crime are the scum of the earth and should burn in hell (or Wisconsin).

Acharpe, I hope that in the future you will realize that everyone is entitled to their opinion whether you agree with it or not and basically telling people to shut up will not make you any friends fast, especially since everyone on here is a pretty tight group. Hopefully this was an isolated incident and more of an emotional outburst and not the status quo.

EDIT: I posted this before reading a couple other posts from Acharpe where he basically apologized. Good to see it is getting worked out.
