So the past two weeks I've been looking all over for my Xikar XI-3 cutter, and my circle flame porche lighter, I thought one night out on the town, a couple scotches too deep that I forgot them somewhere....

But yesterday I had to go on a business trip and the security guy pulled my bag to search...He opened a pocket and pulled out my lighter...

Damn it!!! I yelled, that's where that is....he looked at me...I said that's a nice lighter...it wasn't cheap...he picked up my cutter and I said "That's going with me because i Know it's allowed!" He looked at me again, slipped the lighter into his pocket and said "Thanks" then returned to the X-ray Machine....

I've lost knives and lighters that way. It SUUUUCKS to remember they are in your pocket or carry-on right as they go through xray! (I had two little K.I.S.S. blades and lost one to the TSA. I thought, "no biggie" I have one at home to use. Lost it a week later. Grr.)

So, he basically stole it from you. Did you report him?

I know at the airports in San Diego and Oakland there is a kiosk set up to allow you to mail any banned items (lighters, small knives, scissors) to your house. I think it costs about $12 per item.
I know alot of other airports are setting up the same option, but I'm not sure about Midway or O'Hare.

Ontario, CA didn't have one as of February, dagoneit! Didn't even check MCO last week.

It's a good idea, but with a $12 tag, is it worth sending most of the "dangerous" contraband home?

I know what you mean. Ever since these new TSA regulations I've switched to inexpensive torch lighters. This way if I forget to take one out of my carry-on, it's no great loss.
Plus, you place a cash payment in the bag with the item, which would cut into my in-flight beverage fund

Those bastards took my hole punch off my keys last year... They didnt seem to have a problem with my bottle of scotch, and torch lighter which I could make a god damn firebomb out of in a few secs. These restrictions are pretty stupid.

they are totally stupid. I have gotten away with bic lighters and matches at least 20 times in a row.

i fly every week. so i have been testing them with small relatively non-contraversial things. they have never gotten my stuff. But i feel for you. I know that if i tried to get something valuable by them then they would catch it. just murphy doing his thing.

You better watch yourself at the airport 'Smoka! After all you are on the BB gun terror watch list...

Wow Freedom...I completely forgot that!!! hehe...
You're right...I better watch my back!!!
