Hello Everyone,

I've just joined the Cigar.com forum and this is my first post. I enjoy reading some of posts on this forum and find it very informative.

Today I purchased a "The Griffins's XXI Special Edition" stick and I noticed some plume on it. Has anyone experinced this and does it effect the taste & smoke? Some web sites say that its ok and on a form stated that its mold.

Thanks and I look forward to all of your responses.

Bloom or as is sometimes referred to as "plume," is actually desirable. It designates proper aging and enhances flavor. As long as the bloom is white, not blue, and the cigar is not kept too moist, it's both okay to leave on and let it continue to develop, if you plan on keeping it around. Just make sure it doesn't turn blue. If it does, wipe that stuff off, keep that humidor a bit drier, and smoke that one right away if you can.

Thanks Bloofington for your help. I'll take your advice and smoke it tomorrow. I have recently started smoking and this was the first time this has happened and I don't have a humidor yet.

Thanks again.

Welcome Cimmerian.

You don't have to smoke the cigar right away if it's plume. I think Bloof was saying that if it's blue tinted to wipe it off and smoke it asap. Blue tint would mean it is mold, which is not good. That's why Bloof said also something about keeping the humi drier if it's blue.

Of course if you bought it with the plume it's good to smoke or keep. If you bought it with mold you could take it back to the shop and get them to replace it.

Thanks for welcoming me to the forum and all the good advice.

What does the Plume look like? Is it white and web looking, is it sparatic throughout the cigar, only in certain parts? Or does it sparkle and look like little crystals have been imbedded into the cigar?

Bloom or plume is crystalized oils in the cigar, it can be confused a lot of times for the white stuff that is very common on a lot of cigars...if it's white and fluffy looking, it's not bloom, some may disagree but last time i checked, crystaized oils aren't fluffy....

Welcome to the Forum! :D

Seems strange that a cigar would form Plume/Bloom over night if not
in a humidor?
It has been high humidity lately, so maybe?
If there were no signs of it when you bought it & had it out of any type of humidification for a day or two - it's hard to believe either could happen that fast?

Can you scan a picture?

That's a great link CC, thanks....

That's what I was trying to describe...
