Blind Box Pass Sign Up

I have been thinking about doing a pass in which all the cigars in put individually into opaque baggies (provided in box) for a blind selection.

You would select your puts and bag them but be sure to keep them separated. Then you would select your takes from the box without knowing what you are taking (honor system). Then you would list your takes and puts like we have been doing on other passes, pack the box, and send it on to the next person on the list.

Only limit would be a guidline of cigar minimum cost of. Upper limit would be the limits of your generosity.

Any interest?

The way I had thought it would work is:

1) Take the sticks that will be your puts and put them in their baggies, but don't add them to the box.

2) Choose your takes from the box based on the judgement you get from size, feel, weight, etc. Or just pick some

3) Add your puts to the box.

4) Open your takes and see what you've got.

5) List your takes and puts on the box pass thread like the ones we've done before.

6) Send the box on to the next person on the list.

I was trying to think of a way to have a blind draw for your takes so maybe you'd get something you wouldn't normally choose, and maybe get a great surprise in the deal.

If there's enough interest I'll get started putting it together.

Possible addition - each stick has a price range posted on it - for example $2 - $7, $7 - $15, $15+ - that way you try to put in similar priced puts for your takes. So, if someone knows there are a few sticks in the $7 - $15 range, they may be more likely to put in a Diploma or something similar, or an Opus if there are a few other cigars in the $15+ range. Also, if they want to put in a Diploma, they may decide to take 2 or 3 from the $2 - $7 range. This may help keep the inventory from slowly dwindling down to a bunch of $2 or $3 cigars because no one wants to chance trading in a Don Carlos for a Macanudo

Sounds like a good idea.

What about making each bag a variety bag?
You could stipulate that each person put in say, one $2-$5 cigar, one $5-$10, and one $10+. Or divide it up based on how many cigars are to be put in each bag, or if they're individual bags for each cigar, stipulate that each person take one of each price range, and put back one of each price range.

I also think it would be a good idea to seal off each cigar. Wouldnt be good for people to just sit there and open all the bags to see whats in them and then choose. Have them closed up so noone can take a peek at whats in each bag...but just go by the price range/weight/size that one can feel.

I dunno about requiring people put in one of each of those price ranges. I can tell you right now that I dont have any $10+ cigars in my humi, or on the way/buying anytime soon. There are a lot of newer guys on here that are starting off small to get a taste and just feeling the water that wont have the more expensive cigars.

I was thinking similar though, that there be like 3 cigars per bag, but each marked with a different price range on them, so that one may replace the bag they took with 3 equally priced cigars. This benefits us newer guys, while also will help keep the seasoned smoker's pallet happy.

Yeah, didn't think of that. I'm kind of spoiled in that my tobaccanist is on the way home and has a HUGE selection, so I could just go pick some up. The other suggestions are better.

Pretty big honor system. If anyone says they randomly got 5 Opus X, we will be onto you :x

Thats why I recommended to seal off the bags, with some sort of tape or something.

Maybe it would be better to just do a regular box pass so some of the newer folks can get in without too much guess work and worry.
