Armpit of the world....Al Asad, Iraq
I just bought one online and I did the salt test to make sure that it was good to go. I also put in my analog hygrometer as a comparison. The analog showed 70-71% the digital showed 61%. So I thought that maybe the plastic bag didn't hold a seal and that the analog was bad. So I removed the analog and put in my other digital for 4 more hours. The other digital read 71% and the new one was at 62%.
So I think that the new one is bad. Is there a way to calibrate these things or do I have to return it?

Here's a pic of the one I recently bought:

If it was +/- say 5% on the salt test I would say tape a note to the hygrometer to remind you to calculate accordingly. But being off by 13% I would just ask for an exchange. I've used that same unit with an accuracy of +/- 3% which isn't bad.

I've had great success with a unit called little havana. Next time you're in the market for a hygro, check em out: http://www.littlehavanacigars.com/prodd ... d=HY1062LT

The unit is shipped in an anti-static bag and placed in a thick cardboard tube.

I recently saw a Weather Channel wireless one at Home Depot for thirty bucks. I'm really thinking about that one to replace my old one as its gotta be in the humidor and its hard to read through the smoky glass. I know it seems lazy that I don't want to just open the door and check it but doing that makes my cigar oasis run and I already need a new cartridge. Don't mean to threadjack but maybe that might help you out if you can return this one.

I was thinking of getting something similar for the same reason as you quag. That smoky glass on the frigador has its good and bad points.

So, DD

How is that one working out for you? Did you have to recalibrate it?
Do you think a guy would need one in a small humidor?

Keep us posted if you can.

Radio Shack sells a good digi for around $20 I think?

Personally don't use them - the Bead media works great.
Always keeps things right where they should be.
If my cigars seem a little dry I just add water - if things start getting to damp I dry the beads out and I am rght on again.

My storage cabinet has "set & forget" I have it set at 63% and my cigars are always perfect!
