An Almost Totally Dry Cohiba Needs Your Help

In my possession I have a Cohiba that is almost completely dry. I have been reading some info on restoring it (It will never be the same again, sadly). All I have is the cigar and I don't have a humidor yet. I ordered a Toscana 100 Cigar Rosewood Humidor which will take a few days to get here, plus I will have to re-humidify the humidor once it does.

My question is, will the two plastic bag method work? If I put the cigar in a plastic ziploc bag with holes in it and put that in a larger plastic ziploc bag with a damp, but not wet, sponge? Will it really take months to bring it back?

I'm tempted to just smoke it now, but I would really like to save it and store in my humidor once it gets setup and enjoy the cigar once it has been restored as close to it's original state as possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
NSFolsom

It could indeed take months, and the method you mentioned is your only chance. Hopefully all the flavor hasn't been "aged" out of it.

Well, I decided I should just smoke that bad boy.

And Man... Was that a good smoke! So creamy and spicy, not to mention smooth!

All I can is wow. I also had some Havana Club Cuban rum with coke to go along with the smoke... Again, wow! The best rum I have ever had.

This is my first cigar in at least a year.

I WANT MORE COHIBAS!

Check back on Cigar.com on Friday when our December issue of the newsletter comes out. It will have a very good article on the subject.

I hate raining on anyones parade:

99% of all Cuban sold in Aruba are Fakes!
Unless your friend buys form a LCDH - they will not be the real thing.
No matter what they say - promise - ect.

The LCDH is the only way to get a real Cuban anywhere in that part of the world.
Not saying it will be a bad cigar, just not the real authorized deal.

Here is a scan of the band off of my Cohiba

And here is a picture of the new style of Cohiba bands from Cigar Aficionado.com

"Cohiba's new band was released in June, 2003, first appearing on the new Siglo VI. The design is familiar to Cohiba smokers, with some notable differences. The first is the gold on the word "Cohiba" and its surrounding border, plus a gold line has been added running through the center of the band. The "La Habana, Cuba" script on the old label has been changed to simply "Habana, Cuba". Lastly, there are now three rows of white square dots above the word "Cohiba" where before there were two. All Cohibas being produced now are being packaged with the new bands, but old bands are still in circulation."

They looks exactly the same to me. I don't know where in Aruba he got the cigars but I will inquire. I will ask if he's will be staying anywhere near this LHDC...

I did and I have never purchased anything from them before. So far so good. I will gladly post my thoughts once I receive my items.

Thank You,

I got my first humi from them. It doesnt make the woosh sound, and I have way too much trouble keeping the humidity up inside, even before it started getting cold.

NSFolsom,

Don't Go By The Bands Or Packaging To Tell If They Are Real!!

Counterfieters are getting pretty professional about things and a lot of the time the packaging and labels will be authentic, but the tobacco isn't what the band says it is, then only way to tell it is what you hope it is, is by smoking it...

Very true!
I have seen packaging so good this year it fooled Vendors!
It was not till someone pointed out the date on the box was before the cigar was made that they found out they had been douped.

Most stores know most guys won't not know the real thing.
So why pay top dollar when they can get a fake for 1/2 the price and make that much more money.
It is a horrible truth in the cigar world.

Regarding cheaphumidors.com. We had someone start a thread just about this recently. It's probably on page 2 or 3 by now. I've got two desk tops from them, never a problem.

Regarding the "whoosh" sound. I've said this a thousand times on at least two different web sites through the years. Don't go strictly by the seal. The importance of the "whoosh" has been greatly exaggerated. Nothing wrong if it's not there, great if it is. The two desk tops I have with the WORST seals keep humidity the BEST. Go figure, but don't go to The Church Of The Whoosh.

Regarding fake Cohibas. I got a fake Cohiba from my sister's not for long, and maybe not for much longer boyfriend on Thanksgiving. A two month old girl could have told it was a fake from half a football field away. Great band, though. Told me he knew it was the real deal, because he "got it from a Cuban refugee."

Okay, and I'm The Second Coming of Felix Unger. That doesn't make it a real Cohiba and this one isn't.

To his credit, on his first try, he made a PERFECT turkey. Everything was wonderful, the stuff he made, and the stuff my sister made.
