After the heat treatment

I used to seeing the straw streaks from a heat treatment. This time I traeted it in the oven and it turned a sold gold color.

Cheers

Do the different blends of steel lend to different tastes in the cigar?

Serious question:

Where'd you get the anvil, and what did it run you?

I've been looking for one, but they seem to be mucho $$.

Thanks, Bob. I was in a hurry and didn't check my work.

Bob, It is actaully a chisel and a punch. I was mostly just goofing off. Since it is quick to do it is good practice on the different proccess.

Bildo, Don't I wish :D. That was the present I bought my wife.

Bkelm18, Well I do smoke a bit when I am working on the forge.

Magnum, The anvil is a Nimba Gladitor 450#. I paid $2.00per#. It was from a shop that things went south and I was trying to help sell items, Like this anvil. I was looking for a 200# anvil. I finally was like I can't pass up a good price like that and bought it. Yes anvils are pricey. Make sure you do not get an ASO (Anvil Shaped Object). What type of Smithing are you into?

Not into any yet, still trying to assemble a forge. I want to start off making some frontier-type tools (basically, start off with a hammer and tongs, and make the rest of my forge tools from there). I might move into knives, and ultimately, I'd like to make a flintlock, or at leat most of it.

I was looking at some tool steel anvils, but man, they were upwards of $1000. Guess I'll just have to save awhile.

always admired that type of steel work. i can appreciate the hard work as i build roll cages and the sheet metal bodies for race carsand know the work involved with metal work.
