I want to learn more about the folks on this forum. What better way to get people to talk about themselves then, to get them to talk about something they love? What do you love to do in your spare time? What do you wish you had more time for? In a band? Do you play sports? Do you collect rare first edition Archie comics? Well?

I'm currently learning about roasting my own coffee. I just got a Popcorn popper that I'm gonna use to roast my own coffee beans. I just placed an order on-line for raw coffee beans.

I also want to brew my own beer. I got a gift certificate, for my b-day, for a D.I.Y. place in town.

The things I do for a living are the things I enjoy; so I play paintball and paint, draw, etc. :)

I live a dull existence but ignorance is bliss.

I also roast my own coffee for espresso and have an I-Roast and a Zach&Danni's roaster for roasting.

I use a Rancilio Sylvia paired with a Rocky grinder to make americanos a lot. Can't go wrong with this winning combo.

I did use a popper for a while to roast and it worked well, just make sure you watch it carefully as it will roast a batch in 4 to 5 minutes.

Have fune and don't forget to let the fresh roasted beans air for a period of 12 hours and then sit for 3 days or so so they gass out before tasting them.

Ham radio operator, RC Helicopters, metal detecting. I ride motorcycles summer months and a small snow cat during the winter. Occupation= Forster/Arborist

That's awesome. I love americanos (the drink.) Thanks for the tip. Don't be suprised if you get some PMs in the future with more roasting questions.

How cool is it that? Bobberrific has R/C Airplanes and R Rocks has R/C Helicopters.

Cool hobbies, everyone.

Cool idea. I love baseball, I try to take the kids to a few ball games every year. We have a single A team here in Vermont. They are the Vermont Lake Monster, formally the Vermont Expos. They belong to the Washington National. We take a ton of pictures and make 2'X3' framed baseball collages. The kids really seem to like it and it lets me share something I love with them. I collect autograh baseballs and pictures. i have a small collection, thats growing very slow now that I have diverted those funds to my cigar hobby. I've got a great Yogi Berra signed ball. I'm looking for anything signed by the late, great Thurman Munson. A few of my friends and myself, make the trek to Yankee Stadium ever summer to see a game or two. I can't wait till this summer. It will be my first trip to the city as a cigar smoker. I've got a list of shops to visit a mile long. I can't wait. I also do alot of gardening and yard work. My wife says I am little obsessed with how the yard looks. But its something that I really enjoy and take alot of pride in.

Cooking (soon to become a lifestyle), winemaking, videogames, photography, fishing, hunting.
Plus I have soo many sports cards and boxed action figures that it's probably a fire hazard

im just a plain old computer nerd, i build 'em and find new ways to break them, thats my job/hobby.

i'm in to stock car racing. i build and repair them and also have my own car which i race locally

Great thread, Brenda!

Most recently, I have been spending a lot of time pestering you good people here on the forum...and learning about this new found passion of cigars. Some of you coffee lovers' posts have gotten me thinking about trying the home roasting thing also (or at least grinding my own coffee).

My other hobbies include computer games (mostly syrategy types) and reading. But probably my biggest passion, and most expensive, is my Harley-Davidson. I love to ride with some of my friends as well as on my own. In fact, I rode most of the day today.... anyone who rides in the temperate zone knows you can't let a 50+ degree in January pass you by without a good ride!!

That's it for me. I look forward to hearing what the rest of you love to do. So many hobbies, so little...CASH!! :)

I have so many hobbies, so much time...

I would have to say my all time favorite is upland bird hunting. Since I own the world's goofiest black lab, he makes for a great, but hilarious time in the field. Next I would have to say flyfishing. I tie my own flies, usually about 50-60 dozen a season. We have the best trout fishing in the world here in Michigan, so I take advantage of that. Then of course my Harley. I posted a picture of it here once with the lab sitting by it. Last but not least photography. I own way too much camera equipment. Even though I do use a digital Canon, I prefer the Old-Skool Nikons.

What a great thread, Brenda!!! I learned alot about people I thought I already knew something about!!

Let's see... I enjoy driving, I just got into shooting a few months ago and I love it, I'm about to start building a custom handgun. I'm also in to computer games like Call of Duty and stuff. I'm a PS2 guy (death to XBOX). I also go Geocaching from time to time (it's kind of like an outdoor GPS scavenger hunt type sport: http://www.geocaching.com/faq/). I'm really into photgraphy (http://www.geocities.com/bkelm17/) used to have my own darkroom. Hmm.... Camping and hiking are always a good time. I love building stuff. I think that's about it.

My number one thing is trying to keep up with the varied activities of my family. I am a letter carrier, and I get home from work before my wife does, so transportation and supply fall on my shoulders. Hobbies include computers, like James I like to break, trouble shoot, and fix em - I'v been doing that since XT's were the hot thing, and then my music - I play Standup Bass, and then when there is time, I like to smoke cigars!

I relax for a hobby, I worked a bunch of jobs in my life, mostly 2 at the same time , one was always cooking some place, for my self ( catering ) or some one else in there commerical kitchen, a few clubs in the area have , no had me on speed dial, I retired in 1999., now I watch the grandsons grow up( they are 8 & 10) , I still cook here & there, & untill I found it it was against the law to distill my own brandy with out a permit , I made about 10 gallons of brandy a year. , but that is all in the past, yea right !, I do work part time at the cigar shop in town ( Rochester Pa.) , I have an OLD Nikon that gets the dust blown off a few times a year, but not as often as it did when it was new & I was a lot younger hahahaha , I am a " People " person, I did a 4 year hitch as a Radio talk show host on 1460 WMBA in Ambridge Pa , but I left there a year ago in August,
Now most of the time I just hang out with all the old farts & some of the yong studds , trade storys To see who can come up with the biggest lie & it still make it so it sounds like , well it might be true hahaha !
I collect empty single malt scotch bottles, but I can never find them empty, so I by them full & empty them one weeee drammm at a time . & when I am bored & have nothing to do , I turn on the computer & post BS on cigar sites hahahahaha ! , enough of my wisdom for tonight, I need to save some of this for the Sunday morning smoke posting ! Enjoy, Vince

I buy and repair/refinish antiques and vintage furniture. I have a shop here in Illinois. I also do wookworking when I can. Other than that it's cigars, cigars, cigars. I don't have the stash that some of you do but I'm working on it. I don't really collect anything right now but I'm trying to get my feet wet in cheroots and other interesting cigar holders.

Nice thread - great reading.

My favorite hobby is Golf - yes, good old boring golf. I probably have the most laughs out on the course with my business partner and buddies than anywhere else. Plus it lets me enjoy my other great hobby - CIGARS!!!

I guess the volunteer work I do would be another hobby. Currently I am on the local United Way board, but I liked doing work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Rotary and Camp Merryheart (local camp for disabled kids). The nice part of these hobbies are that I am starting to bring my kids along to help with the volunteer work.

Interesting hobbies, everyone!

Spider66 you've gotta grind your own coffee. I've used a grinder since I was in highschool! Coffee looses it's flavor so quickly. Grinding is the only way to go.

That is what i am finding out, Brenda. I only started drinking coffee a couple of years ago because it was a staple at work. Unfortunately my exposure has mostly been poorly brewed, commercial ground coffee. As soon as I can recover from the introductory expendature for my new cigar hobby, I am going to look into getting what I need to start grinding and maybe roasting my own. I mean who needs retirement anyway, right?! :flush:

Most of the time I read books. A month a go I saw the movie Sahara, and really liked it. I went online to my local Library's website, and started putting Clive Cussler books on hold. I think I am on the 19th book, and only have a handfull to go.

I also enjoy shooting. In the last few years I have taken up Highpower shooting with the M1 Garand. This year, the AR15 will get to see some action at Camp Perry.
