so i finally got my hygrometer, do i have o do the whole salt test or anything or can i just throw it in the humidor?

yes, it is generally recommended that you do the salt test, just to see where your particular hygrometer is reading.

Depending on your quality of Hydrometer, some will actually give you the ability to change the reading + or -, some do not, but Wolfy's right, you definately want to salt test it to see what your difference is as no product is perfect.

Hope that helps

ok i did the salt test for about 20 hours and its reading 61, its in a double ziplock bag, what should i do...i boght the heartfelt industry beads, so do i need to do the salt test?

Yes absolutely. If it's reading 61% and you did everything corectly, the device is a decent amount. You need to still have a good working hydrometer to know the state of your humidor. The beads will help make the process easier, and take some of the guess work out, but like I've said previously, nothing is infalable :D

Check to see if your hydrometer has the ability to be adjusted. Sometimes they will have a dial or screw to turn to add or subtract to the reading. Allot of these are not visable without popping the plastic cover off, other are easily available from the outside, and then some are unable to be calibrated. Give it a shot and see what happens..

Good luck!

ive read the hygrometer should read both 70 and 75 after the test, which 1 is correct

Should be 75. you should try it again, but put it in a tupperware with a good lid. I've never had good luck with the baggies.

ok this time i put it in tupperware , i think i did everything right and yet after 15 hours it says 65, is could it be 10 degrees off?
should i just g ahead and put it in my humidor now?

I reccomend going to your local shop and get a "Humidipak"
one-step calabration kit (about 4 bucks.) IMHO its far and away better than the salt test. Just my .02 worth.

I have six digitals and I calibrated them all. I just saw how off they were to 75% and put a sticker on them saying -1% or +3%...

I only have 1 digital that read 75 exactly!

ok so i did the salt test and it read 65, i figured i did it wrong because it was 10 degrees below what it should be at, could a digital hygrometer that was 30 bucls be that much off, i put it in my humidor which has 65% humidty beads in it and the hygrmeter reads 55, , i basically just wanna know if any1 has seen that big of a misreading on a hygrometer

I had one that was off that much, but it was only like $7. If you paid $30 bucks for it, I think I would take it back to see if they would exchange it....IMO
