Bleedthrough/Taste transfer questions

I apologize in advance if this is a question that has been asked many times before, I looked through a few pages of old threads and didn't find anything much on the topic and it seems like the information I have found outside this site seems to be a 50/50 split.

I just wondered...Does placing cigars of different varieties next to each other unwrapped cause bleedthrough or taste transfer? I have a 40ct humidor (word of advice to noobs, go big.) and I didn't expect to fill it but now I have, my concern is that placing certain cigars next to each other is going to cause some form of taste mixing, I don't store maduros next to cameroons but I am wondering if some of my full bodied cigars are going to somehow rub off on my lighter smokes.

If I had it to do again I would have bought a trayed 300-500ct humidor and kept everything separate but for now I have my little 40ct as my primary storage. Just so you know, Acids are not a worry as I don't smoke them and will never put one anywhere near my prize sticks.

Thanks in advance for any help.

as we know i'm not an expert by any meaqns but as i have read and heard "marrying" (taste transfer) can be a problem.

I would guess as long as you have a divider between to very diffrent cigars you should be okay. and i woul dguess that the length of time they are next to each other woul dmatter too.

not sure if this helps but i would very carefull of what cigars i place int he same section of my humi if they are going to age for a bit....

Actually Marrying is a good thing, that is when all mthe oils and such in a cigar "bleed" throughout the whole stick. I would not put any flavord cigars in my humi, but evrything else is alright..

If you have flavored cigars :x keep them together and in cellophane, or throw them out...

As for just taste transfer in general (unflavored sticks), I don't think having your singles together for short term storage will do anything, IMHO. But, if it's long term (1+ years) I would put them in different boxes.

For long term storage I would try and separate them……………………..

:lurking:

If it was possible to tranfer flavors from one cigar to another -
I'd have a cheap stick in every box of good cigars!

It just doesn't work that way - except as others have said in flavored cigars - they can funk up the entire humidor!

Never put a 1/2 smoked cigar back ina humidor!
I know taht seems simple but over the years I've heard people do it many times and ruin many cigars!

I once tried to keep a half smoked cigar that I was reluctant to throw away. Not in my humidor, but in a humi bag....when I opened it a few days later to finish....WHEEW! that thing stunk up the whole room...lesson learned..
