All right....

What's the deal with these things?

How often am I supposed to "recharge" them?
Right now I'm having to do it every 7 or 8 days!

I know I'm not doing anything wrong because it says on their website to spray them whenever they turn white.

Now, I'm not jumping the gun here and wetting them down every time I see a few white beads. I mean every week over 80% of them are white. There's no way that my humi is not sealed enough for it to retain moisture. So what's the problem?

Veterans......HELP ME!

wish i could help, i just started using beads too in my humi and i cant get the humidity up much yet...

i've got a shot glass in there, along with a rectangle credo...

so more beads should help raise the humidity? is that a general rule of thumb?

I think surface area is pretty important with the beads. I picked up a cheap acrylic butter dish and turned it upside down and use that as my tray - it does a pretty good job keepinig the humidity at 65 for a decent amount of time.

I did the bead math, and I have the recomended amount of beads in each of my humidors. I refill my 150ct humi every 6 to 8 days. My 50ct every 4 to 6 days. The rh in my room is 32% to 46%. The rh in both my humis stay between 62% and 67%. I'm guessing as the rh rises during the spring and summer, the refilling sould be at longer intervals. My 150ct should need refill every 10 to 20 days. You really can't over water the beads. And the swing in rh is much less with the beads than anything eles I have used Hope this helps.

Personally I'd pour a shot glass of water into the box of beads.

I think if they are new it takes a bit to get the rh level right.
Spraying them will work after you get enough moisture in them.

Just know this is how I do it - not how the company says to do it!
Me I have a box of beads in my Mini (about the same size as your humi I think?) when the ebads turn white I pur a bit of water into the box.
Not enough to drown the beads, just enough to to make the bottom of the box wet.

Hope that helps???

I am experiancing the same thing with mine DD, I think it is just because it is winter. The beads won't hold as much as a sponge, therefore you have to recharge it more often.

There you go!!

That's what I thought about doing.
Great minds, huh?

I'll do that and hopefully it'll level out.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Hey DD, Keep in mind also that your humi is still pretty new.... a lot of wood in there to absorb that Moisture.

I don't use beads except in my cigar caddy but I've heard of people that keep a shot glass of distilled water in with the beads so that the beads are at the level of the water. According to them it sort of automatically recharges the beads so that you don't have to spray them as often. Keep in mind that too much water too quickly can shatter the beads.

Shatter... That's a problem I hadn't thought of.

I'd be willing to bet (based on my experiences with silicone packets in gun safes) that those beads can hold more water than you're likely to get by misting them. Therefore, you're running out of water quickly because you're starting at partial charge.

I think CC has made better use of them by actually dribbling water in with them. Putting the shot glass in your humi allows at least the possibility of overhumidification, but water vapor from the bottom of your bead bowl has to pass through the beads before entering the humi proper, and should therefore be regulated. (Plus, my buddy knocked over a shot glass full of water in his humi once.. Doh! Your bead bowl is usually a little more stable!)
