whats your opinion?

I started out with a cheep ($1.99) cutter and had all kinds of problems. Then I got a punch and thought it was great until I used a friends Xikar cutter. Bought one for myself the next day.

I have a Xikar punch and really like it,,,,the cutter i have is a "El Cheapo"

maybe thats my prob

Get a quality cutter and wet the cap....you might pay more for quality in a cutter, but sometimes you do get what you pay for. Two things in life you should not scrimp on. Toilet paper and Cigar cutter!!!

Very well put, here here

I use a punch even though I have a nice xikar cutter,

No real technique to it, lowers the chance of fouling up my cigars.

Except for torpedos, I use a punch, but it's a Xikar. I have a cheaper cutter for torps, and it works well enough.

i traditionally using my xikar on everything like torpedoes and bigger ring gauge cigars....on thinner gauge cigars and often robusto length cigars ill use the punch depending on the gauge and how long i have to smoke a cigar as i've found a punch "hole" will often help the stoge smoke a bit slower

I have a cuban crafters x2blade cutter. It came with a card that says if the cutter ever gets messed up or gets old/dull regardless of fault they will give me a new one free, for life! It works great, but I am really starting to think about getting a punch, I'd get a better draw I think.

Depends on the cigar, ring gauge etc. Love my Xikar cutter, the Davidoff 3 ring punch, my Zino guiotine and in a pinch, my teeth!

I have a xikar punch, very nice, I think I have just gotten used to smoking a punched cigar. I always wet the cap prior to punching or cutting.

Gnaw the end off, spit it at my feet and use an acetylene torch to light up.

Beleive it or not, I actually did that a long time ago..Once and only once, I got tobacco in my teeth and scorched half the cigar wrapper

Nowadays I use a cheap cutter and throw them away after about 5 uses and a punch for anything but a torpedo.

Allways cut! When I punch the cap allways seems to move around and fall off.

maybe your punch isnt as sharp as it should be.... or your smokes arent at the right RH

My finger nails get the best cut for me. I just pinch the cap with my index and thumb and get a good cut going with my nails. It works great and I never have to worry about cutting too much or too little. I have total control. I will use my double guilotine on my torps.

On torps I use a V Cut, on Large ring cigars I punch or cut , I have a Xikar & a Swiss army knife with a cigar cutter built in , both do a fine job, I have also used the pich off the cap method & my teeth , What ever it takes to get it going !
Enjoy, Vince

I recently bought a cheap punch; I had never tried one. I love it: I haven't had a single cigar unravel; you don't get little bits of tobacco in your mouth, the punch takes up a lot less room in your pocket, and it's really pretty hard to screw up the punch. Since I picked up the punch, I've only used the double blade cutter on torps and a La Flor Chisel. Wait, no, scratch that. I went out to a bar with the La Flor, and only took my punch. I had to lay it on the table and take off the head with my pocket knife (actually worked out surprisingly well).
