Chicago Born/Raised. Hollywood CA Resident
Hey everyone....I wanted to share this with all of you in case you don't recieve my e-mails...And since there are some California residents on this board....it is important that we are all aware of it to stop the legislation!!!! Here is what the e-mail read:

Dear Cigar Advocate,

California's proposition 86 (The Tobacco Tax Act of 2006) is slated to be on the statewide ballot in November. The new tax would virtually kill the cigar business in California by raising the already exorbitant cigar tax of 46% to nearly 135%! This tax would wipe out numerous retail establishments and hundreds of jobs statewide, not to mention send the cost of handmade cigars through the roof.

California is already a hostile, anti-cigar state. If prop 86 passes it will get far worse. In addition to higher taxes on your cigar purchases, California retail smoke shops will be faced with an 88% floor tax on current inventory. That means if a retailer holds $100,000 in inventory, he will be forced to fork over $88,000 in taxes immediately. The majority of retail tobacconists are small businesses - mom and pop owned stores. Make no mistake: prop 86 will spell the end for numerous retail establishments.

If you are a cigar smoker and California resident, or are simply concerned about the loss of individual rights, we urge you to take action. Spread the word and get to the polls on election day. Together we can defeat Rob "Meathead" Reiner and prop 86.

Let's put a stake in the ground - enough is enough!

you cant chance some one smelling your 2nd hand smoke but feel free to kill unborn babies....

i should stop now (before i get a full on rant... itll be ugly)

Reiner is behind this. Anyone know a good sniper and where his next movie will be "SHOT".

He sucks along with the other pantie wastes in Cali who think they know whats best for society and how to control people's lives.

Thank you for this post. We here in the People's Republic of California are used to getting this BS stuffed up our, ah..let that go. When we turn out on election day, we fight the good fight. There are always well intended measures on the ballot. Then there are these. We just defeated Meatheads, "Free Daycare for everyone" measure. Our California Liberals want to be our Thought Police. When the Majority speaks, the Libs just go and find one of their judges. The measure is then hung up in court for years. California needs to split in half. The heat and self absorbed, narcissistic, retired, un-employeed, Actors nobody wants to see anymore, need to keep the light shining on them. They can't let go of the attention. They can't act anymore, the drugs have eaten away their brains. After so many years of reading other people's words, they have no thoughts of their own. They panic and become politicians. Anybody can buy a soap box around here. They kill babies and call it choice. They let mothers that kill 5 children in the family bathtub go free. They allow Pot Clubs to be open everywhere. What about second hand Pot smoke? From every dollar of tax money collected in California, .51 cents is mandated to go to the schools. We have the 43rd best school system in the US. Yep it's working. i think we're up from 44th.

I'm a third generation Californian. I am a heterosexual, Christian, conservitive, white male. I believe in God, Country and Family. I believe life begins at that sparkle in the eye. I am out-numbered. Not by the numbers, but by the people like me, that are afraid to speak out. I am called old fashioned and red-neck and right wing crazy. The cigar tax is just one of so many issues here in Cali. I can't wait to retire and get my red neck outta here. I'm gonna take my cigars with me. Thanks for letting me rant. Come to California and see Animal Farm for real. Remember, Some people are more equal than others.

Thanks for the replies! I have good faith that this won't pass....

California is a crazy place! I've only been here for a few months now, and am hardly used to it. It's funny you mentioned the potclubs, I have never seen a place where Doctors, go around and put flyers on parked cars concerning medical marijuana prescriptions, then you can go buy yourself a bong at the magazine stand on the corner of the street...you just have to cut your way through the tranny prostitutes and crackheads! I think excess cigar tax, and cigar smoking bans is the last thing this state should be concerned with....How about getting the blanket of smog that covers LA off, and dealing with real air pollution first.....

Hey now, don't put all liberals in the same bunch. I'm a huge liberal, pro-choice, vegetarian, homosexual, atheist, activist and pacifist. I have strong opinions. I also respect others opinions. I certainly don't force my opinions on others.

So there.

I don't either.....

But a rant is a rant.....I have some pretty strong opinions as well, although nobody would ever know! I like to keep it simple, and smoke lots of cigars! :D

Now hold on there! My rant was in no way intended to be an insult or my way of disrespect towards other opinions. I would lay my life on the ground for your right to believe any darn thing you want. I would lay my life on the ground for my right as well. I can also say don't put all cigar smokers in the same bunch. I will say this....Living in California without any representation and being told I am the problem when so much BS goes on, gets a bit tough to swallow. Many Libs feel the same way. How does that group anybody together? With skin that thin, I would never make it through another day in this POS State. I only stated my opinion and don't expect or even hope for anyone to agree. I stand by my opinion, it is mine after all.

I think we should drop the conservative and liberal labels we put on ourselves and others. There are two to three camps betweeen both perties and I'm sure that we do not fit into the so called mold for either side.

When it comes to personal freedoms I think at face value we are all on the same side: let people make their own choices for their personal lives. Even though we may not agree with their choice, I think we all respect that it is their choice and let them live with it. I may not think that smoking pot is a good idea; but I will let anyone who wnats to light up make that decision thenselves. I am not homosexual; but I don't think anything less of my friends or family members who are gay. Its their personal choice.

Lets drop the political label and all get on the same side; the right to personal freedoms. :wine:

I wasn't insulted at all. I just didn't want this thread to become a liberal bash fest. And, I don't want you fellas to think all liberals want to police folks.

Hey, I don't think all Republicans are crazy, neo-con, Ann Coulter lovin' freaks (hee-hee I had to throw her name in.) As cliché as it sounds one of my best friends is a Republican. He voted for Bush, TWICE! And, I love him dearly.

I know I'm in the minority at the AmBack forums and I like it.

It's funny, most people assume I'm one thing or the other by how I look and who my friends are, but I don't think I can ever commit to one philosophy...

...I just like to smoke cigars!! 8)

People should always have the right to do whatever they want, there will always be people who disagree with things...one way or the other...that's just how it is and will always be....

But I am glad we live somewhere that we can all share our personal views and opinions freely, regardless of what they are. That is one of the most important things everyone can agree on....So let's jsut keep smoking cigars while we still can!

Vote no on Prop 86!!!
