Can anyone recommend a good smoke with a Guinness?

I'm not exactly the biggest fan of hard liquor, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'll go reaching for a Natty either.

I'm meeting a good friend of mine this weekend for a dinner and a smoke. Since we'll be heading off to the local cigar shop beforehand, I was wondering if anyone had any pleasant experiences with paring a particular cigar with a nice tall pint of Guinness...considering that's probably all I'll be drinking that night.

Maybe a Java?

IMHO, a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 will treat you right. Full and robust to match that thick drink called Guinness. Man, that sounds good right about now. Sitting here at work staring at a computer screen just isnt cutting it for me on a Friday. After work, i think I will light up another of my favorites....Partaga Black Label, tubos. have fun this weekend.

Three words.... Camacho.....Diploma......Natural...... Cannot be beat paired with a good stout.

You're right about those RPV 1990s Jeremy. I figure with a Guinness, you can't really go with anything light considering the contrasting differences would be very distracting...at least to me.

Stay strong at work. Maybe you should start carrying around a swatch of spanish cedar to get you through these long Fridays.

Sheesh, I thought you needed a strong cigar to pair with stout
Of course I'm kidding (don't wanna see anyone get hurt) and I'd second Capt's recommendation.

I haven't had a Camacho Diploma yet, let alone with a stout. I may have to try one out.

As far as strength, is it anything like the Joya de Nicaragua cigars?

In my opinion, the Joya de Nicaragua Antaño is a good hint at what the Diploma offers as far as body.

So from what I'm gathering, I should probably request a chair that comes with seatbelts at the dinner table.

Nah, they are REALLY that strong. Just smoke it slow, and be prepared for a night of burning corrections! This is a cigar that you have to work for, but it will reward you in the end.

I would agree with all the previous posts. A hearty Cigar for a hearty stout. I usually smoke what I'm in the mood for and drink what I'm in the mood for as well. If you have any problems with a Cigar and anything you're drinking, just sip some water between puffs or sips as a palate cleanser.

I tend to think that every cigar goes with Guiness. Check out the Cigar.com radio show at http://www.cigar.com and click on the episode from 8/18. They actually go into detail on good pairings with Guiness.

Alright Capt, I tried the Camacho and I must say it indeed paired up very well with the Guinness...and I'm still standing. (Barely)

Indeed a fairly strong smoke. I think I'm going to sleep very well tonight.

Another Diploma follower! Next Axe, Alex and I can get you hooked on the AF Short Story and coffee!!!

Well the mission is already complete on that one. I'm a huge fan of the short story and coffee duo.

Right now I'm trying to find something to go with that Ashton VSG. Maybe some earl grey

i like a good cola (usually coke). i find that it goes well with the tobacco i like. (sweet and strong and if i can find it cedar)

if its after 11AM add a bit of rum.
Captian and Coke and a good cigar. Great combo for a sunny afternoon.

I have found that my Dr. Pepper goes really well with most of the cigars I've smoked...which are generally medium to heavy bodied.

My friend called me up the other day while I was smoking the VSG and sipping on a Dr. Pepper and he asked me, "Aren't you defeating the purpose of smoking a cigar with that Dr. Pepper?"

All I could do was muster up a relaxed, "Meh."
