Ok if If I am sending just a few cigars say 5 or less a water pillow seems overkill? Would there be any harm in cutting them in half? It seems to me that a half of one would be more then enough to maintain 5 or even a few more cigars for a trip through the mail. I have never got one that that was even close to being depleted of water even from the west coast.

Any thoughts??

Trav,
I don't think you can really cut them in half. How would you be keeping the cut side closed??
Sounds like sog city for the poor smokes in that PIF...

In many cases you don't even need a water pillow. The package you sent to me, still on the East Coast, probaly would have been fine without. I'll be putting those smokes into my humi for the next 30-60 days anyway...

JR cigars makes these cards that do the same thing as water pillows. They are like 10 for $5. They are like a thicker buisness card. I've used these for a few things, try their website.

I agree with rmrdaddy too though. For short shipments you can probably get away without as long as they are sealed up in a plastic bag real well.

Its just gel If you cut em in half and put then in a little bag the water wont leak out. I guess if there not needed for short trips then I guess it wont matter. Thx

another thought...
A cigar auction website out there.....
Has a section just for accessories. IIRC there are often auctions for water pillows, boveda packs, and the like....

Our favorite online cigar retailer also carries them, although there isn't a quantity listed for some reason??
You can find them here:

Be it one stick or 20 one pillow fits the bill for me. You have to remeber that water pillows are an active humidifier, meaning the obsorb and release moisture. That is how it maintains 68%. Even with 5 cigars the pillow will adjust accordingly.

question on the use of the pillows. can they directley touch the cigars???

If you purchase water pillows, they have a sleeve they fit inside. If you don't have the sleeve, just make sure it feels dry or put it in a little ziploc bag.

Cigar.com has the pillows for sale, it says $29.95 but doesn't specify how many you get. if anyone would like to do a split on these I would be game.

For a short shipment I'd just use the 'ol paper towel trick if I didn't have a pillow handy. Just put the sticks in a plastic bag & seal it, then put that bag and a damp paper towel in another bag. Not the best, but good enough for a few days.

I order from c.com more than I mail stuff though, so it's kind of a moot point since I always have enough pillows.
