Anyone try the Cusano DSG? Mike called me asking for feedback as he can still make changes to the blend before he launches it. Please post your feedback on this thread.

I'd be more than happy to provide a full review!!!

This by far the most ridiculous week of tests I've ever had in school, so on friday I'm smoking one as my victory cigar. I'll get my opinions up here on saturday when I recover.

I had one last week at the Phoenix Open. I loved it. It was a beautiful smoke. I am not the best at giving full detail on flavors and such, but I smoked this to the nub, never got to hot and stayd pretty even on flavors throughout the entire stick.

I have a couple, but have not sparked one yet. Maybe this weekend.

Cusano DSG review for Alex

I'm reviewing the Cusano DSG just for Alex. I do not write poetically about my cigars. I just note what I think.

First impression: bumpy, veiny wrapper with a small hole (1 mm diameter) half way down that is just in the wrapper (not a beetle hole). Cigar was spongy around the head and had a large bump (5 mm dia) midway down cigar.

1st real puff after lit and let settle: dry, spicy and unbalanced. Attacked the sweet and sour part of tongue. Smoke caught in back of throat.

About this time the wrapper started to unravel around middle. This really matters later.

Half an inch in the spice let up and the cigar balanced out.

1.5 inches in the spice really backed off and the smoke became more smooth. Flavors of leather and wood.

Half way point the unraveling wrapper caused significant burn issues and the wrapper split again in another spot. Cigar needed a far amount of work to get it back on track.

2/3rd way I picked up cocoa flavors that were quite nice. Sweetness that builds throughout became noticeable and pleasant.

Last 3rd became nutty but the wrapper cracked even more.

The flavor changes kept my interest but the construction (wrapper) problems really hurt the smoking experience. The full body catches up to you in the end.

Final thoughts: interesting cigar. I am not sure that the flavor of the wrapper was worth the construction and burn problems it caused. Even my wife mentioned the ugly appearance of this cigar as it flowered and ashed on me.

Thanks Auro... keep em coming. I am smoking one this evening for my review.

I'm definetly going to let them sit a week or two more then.... maybe that will help the burn issues that auro was having. they've only been in the humi for about 2 weeks.

I know that I like to let my cigars rest for at least a few months in the humidor before smoking. It may be difficult to give an honest review with only a few weeks, IMHO.

Smoked one myself last night. Thought it was great. Best Dominican wrapped cigar IMHO. I did have some wrapper cracking issues when i got down to the nub.

I agree that letting it hangout for a while would be best for any cigar. Obviously this particular cigar is pretty young since it's still in the development stage. However, Mike was kind enough to let us taste these babies early and he asked for comments. Therefore, I think it would only be right to go ahead and smoke the DSG so that you can give honest feedback to the cigar maker. The guys at cusano are not dumb. They know that the cigars are young and that age affects the cigar. So, in this case, reviewing the cigar now may be better than trying to wait for it to mature. IMHO

I probably shouldn't have said "honest review." I can certainly give an honest review now, but my review would probably be better with a couple months of rest. Like Alex said, he did have issues with the wrapper cracking. That could be a sign of youth with this particular cigar. I certainly appreciate the opportunity to review this cigar with the caveat that youth is a factor.

Wel, I just finished smoking this cigar and I have to say ... I wouldn't change anything about it.

I had no wrapper problems at all. The burn was very good. The ash was a nice gray and held strong until I tipped it off around 1 1/2" or so, mainly because I was driving and didn't want to wear the ash. The flavor was excellent, maybe some cocoa and/or cashew. The body was a medium/full to me. It had just the right amount of spice for me. I would agree with Auro that it seemed to get me in the back of the throat a bit.

This will be one of my favs as it is.
